Senior Application Systems Engineer - Fault Handling
Job Description
About the role:
In this role you will collaborate with different cross-functional teams to support the overall definition of the fault detection and handling strategy and lead the definition of the Minimum Risk Maneuver (MRM) strategy. The teams involved include:
- Safety
- Product Management
- Technical Project Management
- Validation
- Technical Development teams (subsystems and platform)
These strategies must fit within constraints regarding program schedule, resources, state of the art technology, and product viability. Safety is prioritized above all.
What you will do:Â
- Support the definition of an overall fault detection and handling strategy
- Lead the development of a Minimum Risk Maneuver (MRM) strategy within the overall fault detection and handling strategy:
- Refine existing set of Minimum Risk Maneuvers
- Apply industry standards and best practices
- Define worst case scenariosÂ
- Analyze the scenarios to confirm the appropriate MRM
- Allocate failure modes to MRMs
- Confirm the allocation of faults to failure modes
- Derive fault handling requirements for subsystems
- Develop the MRM strategy test plan
- Support the execution of the test plan
- Review work products with stakeholders
- Ensure consistency of MRM strategy with the safety case
- Align MRM strategy with program milestones
Minimum requirement of education and experience:
- BS minimum, MS preferred, in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering, Physics, Robotics
- 5 years experience of technical responsibility over a system or subsystem (preferably in the software domain)
Skills required:
- Excellent communication skills; effective in communicating complex concepts and driving resolutions
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with other teams
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Passion for robotics applications and a desire to work in a fast-paced research-powered industrial product development environment
- Systems engineering analysesÂ
Preferred experience:
- Experience using simulation tools
- Experience with robotic systems, autonomous systems, and/or Artificial IntelligenceÂ
- Experience in a safety-critical product environment
- Experience with high performance computing systems
- Experience developing software
