New York Life is seeking an experienced and skilled Cloud Reliability Engineer that will be a member of the Actuarial Services team and drive cross-functional technology for delivering projects on the IaaS platform to meet critical technology and business requirements. Strong networking skills will enable this position to be successful while also work with a Cloud Solution Engineer to automate, deploy, and provide day-to-day support for networking related projects to the IaaS platform. This role provides the right individual with a ground floor opportunity within our new, emerging Cloud Technologies platform.

Responsibilities

• Pair with Cloud Solution Engineer to implement networking related projects to the IaaS platform
• The individual should be well versed in infrastructure as code practices using Terraform and 3+ years Cloud experience.
• Automate and deliver repeatable, reliable solutions using Terraform and GitHub
• Aid with application implementations using primarily Linux platform on AWS
• Automate remediation of platform defects and security vulnerabilities
• Participate in monthly production platform releases
• Review and identify IaaS issues or concerns
• Interpret and advise on usage to optimize and maximize utilization of deployed resources to reduce spend
• Drive automation to replace manual operations and existing processes
• Provide L3 Escalation Platform Support
• Collaborate with Cloud Architects and Solution Engineers to deliver solutions and projects
• Encourage collaboration between teams
• Must be self-directed and willing to learn new tools and services to stay up-to-date with our evolving platforms
• Ability to communicate to non-technical and technical resources

Required

We are looking for someone with the following skill set:

• Must have strong hands-on AWS and Terraform experience
• 4+ years of Network Engineer experience
• 4+ years of overall IT experience, proficient in Linux and networking
• 3+ years with Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) services and platforms, AWS & Azure
• 3+ years of automating solutions and implementation of highly scalable, highly available services using Terraform
• Experience with AWS Transit Gateways, Direct Connect, Private Links, Peering, VPC, VPC Flow logs, Insights, DMZ's, RT53
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve network problems across the IaaS platform
• Understanding of design-for and support-of routing protocols for WAN and LAN connectivity
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Solid understanding/experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process
• Solid understanding of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
• Versed in infrastructure as code practices using Terraform.

Preferred skills/experience

• Public cloud provider experience (AWS certification a plus)
• Strong operating system and admin knowledge of the Linux platform using Bash
• Practical understanding of infrastructure technologies - compute, network, storage
• Ability to relate to software engineering challenges and practices
• Working knowledge of DevOps and delivery tools (GitHub)
• Practical knowledge of coding practices (such as python, .Net, C#, Java)
• Ability to be self-directed, a good team player and capacity for effective time management
• Solid background in Cloud Service provider product offerings - AWS, Azure

Education

• Hashicorp Terraform and AWS certifications a plus
• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred, but not required

Salary range: $105,000-$160,000

Overtime eligible: Exempt
