Reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Climate Strategy, we're seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Associate, Emissions Measurement to join our climate strategy Center of Excellence within the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) team. This role is located in New York, NY - hybrid.

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Develop and maintain financed emissions models to support disclosures surrounding the bank's Scope 3 metrics and sector-specific targets.
  • Serve as an in-house expert on the latest climate scenarios (IEA, NGFS, etc.) to incorporate into existing models and targets.
  • Engage with key lines of business and Risk Management to analyze client transition plans and GHG reduction targets, conduct sensitivity analysis, calibrate the bank's targets, and monitor the bank's performance against its targets over time.
  • Maintain the bank's Scope 3, Category 15 Inventory Management Plan (IMP), including financed emissions measurement and target-setting methodologies.
  • Onboard climate data vendors as needed, serve as the lead platform manager for the team, and support other internal teams with their climate data needs.

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in data analytics, quantitative finance, or related field
  • 3-5 years of total work experience required in advanced data analytics or financial modeling roles.
  • Strong understanding of financed emissions accounting standards and target-setting protocols (i.e., GHG Protocol, PCAF, UNEP-FI target-setting guidelines for banks); experience modeling emissions reduction targets for high-emitting sectors and applying climate scenarios (IEA, NGFSs, etc.) to sector target models at another FI or consultancy is strongly preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills required, including advanced financial modeling and/or scenario analysis; quantitative analysis; data sourcing, aggregation, validation, and management; and data visualization. Candidate must be an advanced user of Microsoft Excel, with experience working with advanced formulas and building complex models.
  • Experience working for a large bank or asset manager, preferably in a role that supports financed emissions analysis and target setting, or experience working for a consultancy firm in a role that supports large financial institutions (FIs) to develop and/or implement their financed emissions analysis and target setting procedures.
  • Knowledge of commodities sector, supply chain domains would be an asset.

BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $54,000 and $110,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.

This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
