About the role:

Allogene Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist in the Protein Science group to support the antibody/protein engineering, production, conjugation, and characterization needs across all our research and development programs. The position will report to the Sr Principal Scientist, Protein Engineering and will be located at from 210 E. Grand Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080. This position will be responsible for continuing our development and implementation of these core capabilities in support of our pipeline of allogeneic CAR T cells. The ideal candidate is an individual who is interested in working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly collaborative biotech environment with a willingness and ability to successfully take on new challenges.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain mammalian cell lines for transient transfection of plasmid DNA
  • Express and purify a variety of proteins including monoclonal antibodies, antibody fragments, antigens, and chimeric/fusion proteins
  • Oversee antibody campaigns, screening, engineering, and production at CROs
  • Perform protein conjugation, labeling, and analytics such as HPLC-SEC, SEC-MALS, SPR (Biacore), ELISA, SDS-PAGE et al.
  • Deliver protein preparations and data analysis summaries in a timely manner to the project team
  • Design, execute and troubleshoot protein purification and analytical protocols
  • Help maintain laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functioning
  • Stay abreast of latest scientific and technology advancements in the field
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements & Experience:

  • BS. or MS. degree in life science or related field required (or relevant experience) and 1+ years of experience in similar role in biotechnology industry
  • Meticulous and highly organized as it pertains to experimental design, bench-work, record keeping and data analysis
  • Desire and ability to learn required skills quickly
  • Having deep understanding and hands on experience with monoclonal antibody discovery workflow is highly preferred
  • Experience with a variety of FPLC based chromatography techniques including Protein A, IMAC, IEX and SEC
  • Experience with protein expression using mammalian cells or insect cells
  • Experience with designing, executing, and analyzing SPR/Biacore experiments
  • Experience with protein analytical techniques such as HPLC and SEC-MALS
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced, biotech environment, while dealing with ambiguity
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication are essential in this collaborative work environment.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.

The expected salary range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, business needs, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
