We are looking for an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to support our Milwaukee, WI (Headquarters) highly automated manufacturing line.
Job Summary:
With this opportunity at Rockwell Automation, you will become an integral member on an incredible team tasked with supporting a highly automated, cutting-edge assembly line that utilizes the latest and greatest Rockwell Automation hardware and software. This position will be based in Milwaukee, WI and includes daily line support providing issue resolution, process documentation and audits, and proactive continuous improvement activities. This is a high visibility role in a data rich environment that requires cross-functional collaboration with teams throughout the company and interaction with customers to showcase Rockwell's capabilities. Exercises good judgment within defined procedures to determine and execute appropriate actions.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Functional
- Leverage automation and controls experience to optimize the machines on a highly automated line.
- Maintain and update mechanical/assembly drawings for in line fixturing.
- Demonstrate an awareness of state-of-the-art and lean manufacturing concepts and practices.
- Possess a proven track record of successful major project implementation efforts.
- Demonstrate an ability to coordinate activities through all levels of the organization to achieve objectives.
- Utilize data analysis, computational skills, and appropriate software to maximize productivity.
- Demonstrate the ability to prepare, submit, and successfully implement capital equipment request that meet business return on investment criteria.
- Possess a high level of production process knowledge.
- Establish and implement employee training and development programs and schedules.
- Respond to manufacturing problems by investigating and resolving such problems to assure a continuing flow of production.
- Lead Kaizen events or other productivity and cost reduction initiatives.
- Prepare floor layouts, implement use of new equipment, and perform process qualifications as required. Utilize Management of Change (MOC) process for all activity.
- Assist in the introduction and/or transfer of products to manufacturing, including procuring, and implementing tooling and production equipment and initiating of routings, bills of material, manufacturing work instructions and any other required documentation.
- Utilize root-cause problem solving skills to resolve problems in product performance, quality, reliability, or environmental impact by implementing design changes or complete redesign in manufacturing when necessary. Use in-depth data analysis tools to address issues with facts.
- Use personal computer to obtain, organize, and analyze data and to prepare charts and reports. Software proficiency skills required in word processing, spreadsheet and business system (SAP). Other beneficial software skills include CAD, report generation, process mapping, project management and databases.
- Implement or assist in the implementation of manufacturing labor standards, production routings, manufacturing work instructions and SAP system needs to maintain production. Use factory automation software to monitor and maintain production.
- Lead the development and implementation of cost reduction programs and achieve department and plant targets.
- Determine the need for, establish, and identify process specifications and manufacturing standards.
- Conducts tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations (state/federal laws, ISO9001, ISO14001, etc.), as well as Rockwell Automation policies and procedures.
- Maintain and enforce safe work practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Coach and train teams in the philosophy of continuous improvement and waste reduction concepts.

- Leverage the use of Connected Enterprise systems to track and drive labor efficiency, utilization, and productivity. Analyze manufacturing labor times for variance and overall reduction opportunities.
- Assist with the development of resource plans based upon individual work cell order demand rates.
- Understand operating budgetary controls.
- Utilize problem solving tools as part of Lean Six Sigma based continuous improvement philosophy.
- Customer/Partner Focus: Recognizes who customers are, both internally and externally; responds to needs of individual customer contacts; seeks feedback from customers to identify improvement opportunities; takes responsibility to correct customer concerns; ensures all work activities add value to the customer or partner.
- Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standard of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO9000 & 14000, governmental regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering field
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Automation or Control Engineering experience
- 5+ years of manufacturing / industrial engineering experience
- Mechanical Engineering or Machine Design experience
- Working knowledge of capacity and production planning tools and techniques
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Leadership experience of flexible work teams
- Customer service or technical support involvement
- SAP business system knowledge
- LEAN Six-Sigma Green Belt or higher certification
- Previous experience in a highly automated, fast-paced, manufacturing environment
