Senior Back-end Developer

Teal Media is seeking an enthusiastic senior developer for a full-time position. You will help bring our award-winning designs to life working along a dedicated team of designers and developers.

Your Team

This role is under the Development team. You will report to the Technical Director and work closely with the Development, Content, and Creative teams.

What You’ll Do

• Work with senior members of the development team to implement technical aspects of the company’s vision and strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals.
• Assist in researching and establishing methodologies, frameworks and other technical strategies
• Contribute to the business development process by representing Teal on the technical front on proposals and pitches
• Be a part of the hiring process when necessary
• Create custom-coded websites built on open-source tools (WordPress and others), including primarily back-end theme creation and plugin development
• Demonstrate high proficiency in WordPress and related technologies 
• Utilize your experience to understand, recommend and implement appropriate solutions for complex technical issues
• Serve as lead developer on stand-alone web-based projects as well as support retainer development tasks for existing clients
• Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
• Train/educate clients as needed
• Manage updates, changes, and feature additions to existing projects
• Conduct quality assurance and testing on project deliverables
• Lead technical solutions discovery on projects
• Assist in researching and establishing methodologies, frameworks and other technical strategies
• Communicate and collaborate with internal and external project team members
• Collaborate closely with and provide technical guidance to team members and clients
• Regularly consult with team members on code deliverables to ensure work meets project requirements before sharing with the client
• Train clients and/or internal team on how to manage and maintain all built functionality

Ideal Candidates Will Have

• 5+ years of back-end coding experience
• Great attention and appreciation of the details
• Very comfortable with coding ‘from scratch’ as well as light use of existing frameworks
• Understanding of the website design and development process, including working knowledge of git, mobile responsive design, and accessibility standards
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Are able to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently
• Enjoys working with external stakeholders
• Bonus points: Experience working in an agency or with nonprofits

Salary & Level

Teal Media is committed to equity and transparency when it comes to salary and the growth of our people. This role is open to both level 2T and 3T in our progression framework and is determined by the candidate’s unique background and experience.
