We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to work with us as we build this next generation of experiences.

Job Description:

Your way to impact and day to day:

• Lead backend and API development by converting ideas, designs, and requirements into concrete, stable production builds
• Actively participate in system architecture discussions and technical design reviews to ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of the Post Purchase systems
• Enforce clean code and excellent coding practices by conducting thoughtful code reviews
• Influence and mentor peers - both on your team and across PayPal
• Work with product, project, and engineering teams to deliver products on schedule that solve customer problems
• Collaborate with QA and other teams to resolve bugs
• Develop and communicates technical processes, standards, and best practices to the team

What you need to bring:

• 4+ years of experience developing, testing, and maintaining web backends and API's.
• Expertise in multiple server-side languages such as Java or Node
• Familiarity with relational and non-relational database technology such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Built modern, resilient and operationally sane backend systems exemplifying industry
• standards (HTTP REST, GraphQL, Serverless, SOA,etc).
• Experience with a version control system.
• Implemented queue basedsystems and knows when to reach for a polling or pub/sub solution. Also knows how to tune the appropriate tool to work optimally for the situation.
• A strong belief that data is an essential tool to drive ideal solutions.
• Experience monitoring production systems and swiftly remedying any issues that occur.
• A desire to ship world class code daily.
• Worked closely with Product, UX, and business teams in the past and understands the important of great collaboration and communication
• Experience with all phases of product development lifecycle, including requirements definition, specifications, development, test, product release, and sustaining engineering.

Bonus points if you have:

• Solid knowledge of algorithms with good problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Interest in finance, e-commerce, or logistics.
