OVERVIEW:

As Leap has grown and continues to implement more technologies, the need for robust, scalable, and cloud-oriented back-end services has grown too. Our core back-end is a customized Parse server with a MongoDB database, but has expanded to other solutions such as Elasticsearch, AWS S3 and various Lambda functions. As a Sr. Backend Developer at Leap, you will not only maintain and update the Parse server code, but also work with the rest of the development team to implement new features and offload intensive processes to other services. The key here is picking the best tools and architecture for the job, ensuring the web and mobile client applications can access the data they need in a robust, efficient, and timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Development of server-side logic using Node.js
• Maintaining custom modifications to Parse Server
• Writing and maintaining testable, scalable, highly-readable code

• Provide architectural guidance and implementation for new features
• Assist the product and support teams in debugging any issues identified in the operation of the Leap application
• Attend and participate in planning, stand-ups, and internal product demos
• Collaborate regularly with the iOS development team to develop and test the interaction between the iOS application and the cloud-based servers

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Experience with Parse Server, NodeJS, and MongoDB (or similar mango-query document databases)
• Knowledge of modern JS ecosystem development tooling such as Typescript, ESlint and Prettier
• Solid understanding of the performance impact of different approaches and can predict how to implement solutions able to withstand high traffic volumes
• Strong understanding of security best practices at the application, network, and server level

• Experience with unit testing (Primarily Jest)
• Familiarity with AWS services and offerings for building cloud solutions
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a background check

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Knowledge of other, more performant, back-end languages/frameworks such as Go or .NET Core
• Comfortable with the VSCode editor, language tools, Git operations, live share, etc
• Familiarity with *nix environments, shell commands and scripting
• API documentation practices
• Previous experience in enterprise application design and development is a plus
