Senior Backend Engineer, Box Shuttle

WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

The Shuttle team is building the next generation of content migration functionality for Box. This is a strategic project to enable Box customers to more easily and more quickly migrate their content from both on-premises content repositories and competitive cloud platforms. This effort is critical to increasing the breadth and depth of the content enterprises store on Box. In this role you will be a key player in the development of this system.

As we make migration more accessible to Box customers, we are also selectively re-architecting and re-platforming our services to support the additional load. This is an opportunity to do hands-on cloud infrastructure work to evolve a stable and well-maintained existing system from its current state of microservices running on a set of GCP Linux instances into a future state where each microservice is containerized and independently scalable on Google Kubernetes Engine.  This effort will touch our entire backend footprint and will enable us to scale our service more efficiently.  

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Develop new backend features for high scale and performance

• Migrate existing microservices to Kubernetes

• Design and implement auto-scaling of microservices

• Solve distributed system challenges resulting from scale out

• Measure and optimize backend performance

• Create tools to aid in testing, deployment, and product support

• Javascript/Node.js (used in the broader team; not necessary for this role)
