How will your role impact First Command?

The Senior BI Engineer will be responsible for the design and implementation of analytics solutions across the enterprise. As part of the Enterprise Data & Analytics Team, the Senior BI Engineer will have the opportunity to shape the culture of analytics practices. This role reports into the Director of Analytics.

The Senior BI Engineer will use our business intelligence platform and industry best practices for to partner with the First Command business owners to rationalize data needs that are critical to our path to business agility. This role will also drive the adoption of self-service analytics across the organization.

The ideal candidate is outcome-focused and has a collaborative style that fosters teamwork. They will be required to work across multiple groups and initiatives.

What will you be doing?

• Deliver analytics solutions that help drive key business decisions and operational efficiency
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to develop an understanding of their business requirements and operational processes;
• Implement and act on the recommendations, outcomes and designs from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture;
• Develop capabilities to improve time-to-answer through an analytics lifecycle, considering how business objectives are defined all the way through business adoption of quality solutions;
• Coach the enterprise in data literacy and analytics best practices ytics;
• Contribute to the process for making data architecture decisions, primarily to support how insights are delivered to the business to drive decision making;
• Complete data exploration and profiling by leveraging data analysis, design and presentation tools;
• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of analytics tools
• Partner with Information Technology and business unit groups to ensure quality data solutions are built that provide consistent, clean and integrated data;
• Explore & design methods to include unstructured and big data, such as social media, emails, pictures, videos, voice and sensor data, client surveys and feedback.

What skills/qualifications do you need?

Education

• BABS required; MBA or MS or equivalent preferred.
• Certifications related to Analytics (e.g. Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau) preferred.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of applied experience in building analytics solutions or comparable positions that handle large/complex data sets, developing visualizations, and telling stories with data
• Applied experience in Agile, SAFe, Scrum or Lean Six Sigma
• Expert in building analytics solutions in a cloud data architecture, experience with Azure Data Solutions including Azure Databricks a plus
• Expert with visualization & data story telling using tools such as ThoughtSpot, PowerBI (preferred), Tableau
• Expert in SQL with advanced data analysis & data profiling techniques
• Strong understanding of data management practices, data architecture principles, and data governance process
• Proficient in ETL tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory (preferred) and Informatica
• Comfort with ambiguity and proven ability to generate innovative solutions
• Ability to be a self-starter and take initiative to achieve tangible results from a conceptual strategy
• Demonstrated understanding of data modelling techniques such as 3rd normal form and star schema

Preferred Qualifications

• Financial services industry experience or other highly regulated industry experience a plus
• Experience with building Salesforce/Analytics CRM solutions
• Proficient in understanding of data mapping and lineage strategies
• Proficient in understanding in conceptual, logical, and physical data design
• Familiarity with analytics process automation tools such as Alteryx
• Familiarity with Machine Learning and modeling techniques using Python, R, and/or Scala
• Experience with Salesforce Financial Services Cloud, Service Cloud, Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud
• Familiarity with the software development process
