Job Introduction
The Senior CAD Design Engineer, within the Corporate R&D Advanced Body Domain, will support the Research Engineering Project Team by leading the creation of new 2D/3D math data of automotive vehicle components, assemblies or systems including packaging regarding innovative technologies being considered by Magna. The Senior CAD Design Engineer will plan, execute and coordinate all CAD related activities for/with all other internal Corporate R&D Domains, Magna Group R&D departments, as well as external Supplier companies, institutions, and academia as needed.
Major Responsibilities
  • Capable of leading complete CAD 2D/3D development projects with limited guidance
  • Create proposal drawings starting from rough design concepts up to detail/final drawings, responsible for all drawing information including tolerance/fits, dimensional specifications and surface finishes
  • Capable of prioritizing and performing multiple advanced modeling studies correctly and efficiently in order to contain all program timing
  • Support the ideation process while identifying gaps in the current product or manufacturing technology to guide and provide future R&D efforts
  • Analyze engineering results and propose product changes to determine feasibility, improvement of components and systems and functional/performance specifications
  • Ability to understand and apply internal standards and procedures within the part or packaging design
  • Responsible for all relevant drawings and parts list and BOM
  • Attend meetings with internal/external customers, with respect to design reviews
  • Confer with Project Engineers to clarify or resolve problems and develop designs
  • Maintain proper filing systems to ensure all information, (electronic or hard copy) are stored according to departments requirements
  • Provide CAD engineering support to other departments within the company as directed by the department leader
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks
  • Ability to lead, mentor and assign tasks to CAD Designers
  • Assist with Test Matrix & P/DFMEA documents - perform analysis of result data to draw conclusions and recommendations
  • Continuing education and/or training as technology evolves
  • Perform other duties as required

Knowledge and Education
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering
  • Knowledge of ANSI, SAE, QS-9000, and other industry/customer related standards
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process and assembly methods

Skills and Competencies
  • Proficient level 2D/3D CAD skills using Catia V5
  • Experience with Siemens Team Center PLM
  • Experience with Catia simulation applications (linear-static FEM, kinematics, Others)
  • Effectively interpret internally / externally provided simulation and measurement results (Non-linear FEM, structural optimization, mold flow, GOM 3D scans, others)
  • Understanding of GD&T principles for the creation of datum and tolerance strategies
  • Design experience and knowledge of multiple materials (Metals, Plastics, Other)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct and control specific projects

Work Experience
  • 5+ years experience with conceptual design and packaging in an automotive environment at a Tier-1 or OEM

Work Environment
  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to travel domestic and international
