Factorial Energy is transforming battery technology to enable safe, scalable, and high-performance cells for electric vehicles. Operating out of its world-class research and development facility in Woburn, MA. Factorial holds a portfolio of solid-state innovations, including its segment-leading FEST™ (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology)

Factorial Energy is looking for a cathode Development Scientist/Engineer to join its R&D team in Woburn, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will take laboratory-oriented tasks and will focus on the cathode development for the next generation lithium batteries. This position requires an understanding of cathode electrode preparation, testing, and analysis. The role will entail independent design and execution of experiments, data analysis, and collaboration with Factorial Energy’s R&D. Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Job Description
  • Develop the cathode electrodes that are compatible with Factorial’s electrolyte system to meet the cell performance requirements
  • Maximize the cell performance by identifying the failure mechanism. Propose and design experiment to solve/mitigate the problems from the cathode side
  • Build small scale prototype cells to evaluate key metrics of cathode materials/electrodes
  • Interface and work with external material vendors/collaborators in experiment design, results discussion, and report written
  • Contribute to the cathode electrode fabrication process development.
  • Maintain compliance with all company protocols related to confidentiality, assignment of inventions, and other policies or duties as identified and assigned
Qualifications
  • Master or PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science and engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields
  • More than three years of industrial experiences with the cathode electrode development, including electrode preparation, testing, data, and failure mechanism analysis. Seniority level will be decided based on the prior experience and accomplishment
  • Candidates with prior experience of dry cathode electrode is preferred
  • Plus for candidates with experience from R&D to production scale-up
  • Strong problem-solving skills and able to come up with creative solutions to challenges
  • Willingness to execute on multiple tasks in a fast-paced start-up environment
