Department Overview

The ASTRO Devices Software team specializes in the development of world-class digital two-way communications devices for the mission critical market. Our APX family of devices are a lifeline to our public safety customers - firefighters, police officers, and other first responders. By leveraging state of the art technologies we are changing the way public safety uses our devices making them more safe and better equipped to handle nearly every situation.
Job Description

As a Senior Cloud Architect, you will focus on working with Product Managers and technical partners from numerous organizations to identify the best possible customer experiences and bring them to life by leveraging our various businesses and the latest, cutting edge cloud technologies. As part of your role, you will also be responsible for conducting proof of concept activities and technical evaluations to ensure that the solution is well understood and feasible. Once understood, you will work with the various stakeholders to gain alignment on and acceptance of the solution and support the development teams as the solution is implemented.

Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to understand customer needs and associated business requirements.

• Collaborate with technical staff in numerous internal and/or external organizations to set strategy and develop the appropriate solution to meet business and project needs (presenting appropriate tradeoffs as required). 

• Research and recommend new technologies for possible inclusion in our solutions and/or business.

• Conduct appropriate proof of concept and evaluation activities in order to ensure the proposed solution is well understood and feasible. 

• Document the resulting technical requirements/solution and work with various stakeholders to gain alignment and support for the solution.

• Support the development team as they implement the overall solution including focused development activities as required

Basic Requirements

• You have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.

• You have 5+ years of experience architecting, developing, and deploying web services on cloud based infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Azure) on a large scale supporting at least 5,000 simultaneous users.

• You have 3+ years of experience technically leading teams that develop complex cloud based solutions.

• You have outstanding technical problem-solving, design, and coding skills.

• You exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

• You have a solid understanding of software development processes and practices.

• You are capable of working effectively within a cross functional team and in distributed team environments.

• You have a strong desire to understand how things work and continually learn new domains/technologies.

• Some US and Global travel may be required.

Desired Requirements/Skills

• You have experience developing Microservice based applications in C# or Java.

• You have used tools and written scripts to manage continuous deployment and integration, monitor usage and troubleshooting.

• You are familiar with Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, Git, and Bitbucket or similar tools.
