In our continued effort to harness the power of data, we are seeking a seasoned Senior Cloud Data Engineer with deep expertise in AWS services. The successful candidate will pioneer our Risk and Finance Data Hub development, data ingestion, and pipeline creation specifically tailored to the finance and risk sectors.

Oversees the development of methods, practices, policies, tools and processes to collect, store, access and use data securely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Supports the full lifecycle of data assets. Assures the quality of data collection, including the adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of the data. Identifies ways to manage data across a diverse but unified data tier. Plans and supports the implementation of cloud data management platforms and tools, policies and procedures giving the organization control of business data, both in cloud applications and hybrid cloud/ on-premise set-ups. Manages data integration applying relevant data governance and management practices.

Advanced level of proficiency:

• Creates and maintains an optimal data pipeline architecture.
• Assembles large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
• Builds the data infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.
• Builds analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
• Works with different stakeholders and teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
• Works with experts in data strategy and data governance to suggest data quality enhancements.
• Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a senior specialist resource across BMO.
• Influences how teams/groups work together.
• Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.
• Communicates abstract concepts in simple terms.
• Fosters strong internal and external networks and works with and across multiple teams to achieve business objectives.
• Anticipates trends and responds by implementing appropriate changes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect and implement an AWS-based Data Hub, catering to the unique requirements of the finance and risk sectors.
• Design, develop, and optimize data ingestion pipelines using AWS Glue, Python, and related technologies.
• Manage and fine-tune AWS Redshift and Postgres databases to ensure fast, accurate financial data retrieval.
• Collaborate with SQL developers, analysts, and data mappers to ensure accurate integration of finance and risk data.
• Provide AWS cloud data architectural solutions emphasizing security, compliance, and scalability.
• Write and maintain Python scripts and SQL queries pertinent to financial data processing and risk analysis.
• Monitor and optimize data pipelines to ensure integrity, accuracy, and compliance.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members, ensuring best practices in financial data management.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Finance, Financial Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with AWS, with a strong focus on data solutions for the finance and risk sectors.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL with a keen understanding of financial data structures and risk metrics.
• Expertise in AWS Redshift and Postgres, with experience in finance-related database administration.
• Solid understanding of Unix/shell scripting.
• Demonstrable knowledge of financial regulations, risk management principles, and AWS cloud data architecture best practices.
• Experience with financial data mapping, transformation, and compliance processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree. 9+ years of experience in data application development (Python, SQL, Scala, or Java).
• 4+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
• 4+ years experience with Distributed data/computing tools (EMR, Kafka, Spark, or MySQL).
• 4+ year experience working on real-time data and streaming applications.
• 4+ years of experience with NoSQL implementation (Mongo, Cassandra).
• 4+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake).
• 4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting.
• 4+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices.

Desired Skills:

Relevant AWS certifications, such as:

• AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
• Prior experience in a large financial institution or in financial technology.
• Familiarity with global financial regulations and risk management standards. Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Proven track record of project management and delivering large-scale data solutions.
• Continuous learner, staying updated with AWS documentation, participating in AWS training, and attending AWS conferences.

Compensation and Benefits:

$123,200.00 - $176,000.00

The base salary represents BMO Financial Group's hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.

Base salary is one component of BMO Financial Group's total compensation package for employees, which may include performance-based incentives, commissions or discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
