Senior Cloud Engineer

The Senior Cloud Engineer will plan, design, configure, maintain, and further develop VyStar's private and public cloud infrastructure. The person in this role will work closely with development teams and system engineers to design and implement cloud resources in an optimal manner. They will review the current cloud environments to validate implemented technologies, improve performance, reliability and ensure security practices are followed. The incumbent will also review cost optimization and ensure correct structure and tagging are in place for cost awareness and departmental chargeback.

This role will serve as a technical subject matter expert in cloud technologies. They will actively participate in configuration consultation, vendor evaluation, and problem resolution of multiple systems. The candidate should have a clear understanding of how to research, design, implement and troubleshoot information systems, cloud technologies and technology solutions in support of business needs. Under limited supervision, the candidate will be required to effectively manage and prioritize assigned projects, design complex multi-system solutions to meet the needs of the business. They will be required to make recommendations in these areas with a high level of technical competency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Your team will be responsible for the following:

• Responsible for day-to-day cloud infrastructure operational tasks such as monitoring metrics and logs, responding to alerts, and system troubleshooting.
• Assists in maintaining and troubleshoot on-premises systems as necessary. This includes: Internally developed systems, VMware, Citrix, Microsoft clustering, ADFS, Enterprise storage platforms (EMC VNX and Unity), and others. Participate in troubleshooting any issues as necessary in the hybrid cloud environment and take part in the on-call rotation with other infrastructure engineers.
• Foster a DevOps mindset among the various engineering teams utilizing ARM templates and YAML. Develop scripts and other automation to streamline cloud and on-premises operations. Kubernetes experience a plus.
• Work with architecture and development teams to provide guidance for new system designs and determine if on premise or cloud environments are best suited to run the workload. Ensure high standards of code quality, redundancy and security are followed in all environments.
• Use of automation such as Infrastructure as Code to create infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines to apply changes. Participate in production deployments with other infrastructure and software engineers.
• Assist with the evaluation and migration of on-premises systems to determine which systems are best suited to run in cloud environments. Build highly redundant environments to ensure application performance, uptime, scalability, and business continuity to prevent loss of business services.
• Maintain documentation of infrastructure design, related technical procedures, operations manuals, and other best practice guidance and strategies. Educate current teams on new cloud initiatives and the support of those environments.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Formal higher education (Bachelors or higher) may be substituted with experience at a 2:1

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• 5 to 7 years of Enterprise level work experience in Systems Engineering or in a related position with physical and virtual Microsoft-based systems; ideally in a financial services organization (or related industry).
• 3+ years of experience managing a production cloud environment

SKILLS:

Key/Required

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity.
• Strong understanding of IT, software development, and DevOps best practices

Technical Skills:

• Expert knowledge of Windows Server 2012/2019, Virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper V, Citrix. Knowledge and experience required for cloud services including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365 environments, and AWS cloud services.
• Must demonstrate expert knowledge of converged and hyperconverged systems including Cisco UCS, VCE VBlock, VxRail, Nutanix and Dell servers. Must have expert knowledge supporting EMC SAN architectures.
• Experience with automation technologies and the ability to streamline processes
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform. VM, networking and Storage
• Experience with containers and orchestration platforms such as ECS WebApp, Data Lake, Databricks and Kubernetes
• Experience with Bash, Python, PowerShell, or equivalent scripting language. Experience with version control tools such as Git
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment tools such as Azure DevOps

Additional Skills:

• Advanced troubleshooting abilities across multiple technologies and vendors. Ability to collaborative with multiple teams of business analysts, developers, data scientists, and engineers. Able to calmly provide support on bridge lines during outages.
