Senior Cloud Platform Engineer

The Position:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Cloud Operations team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure with a strong emphasis on security, cost optimization, and automation. You will help build and enhance our self-service cloud platform on AWS, enabling development teams to deploy and manage their applications efficiently while ensuring compliance with security standards and budget constraints. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and strategic thinking to help scale our cloud operations and implement best practices across the organization.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Cloud Operations team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure with a strong emphasis on security, cost optimization, and automation. You will help build and enhance our self-service cloud platform on AWS, enabling development teams to deploy and manage their applications efficiently while ensuring compliance with security standards and budget constraints. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and strategic thinking to help scale our cloud operations and implement best practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement secure, scalable infrastructure-as-code solutions using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines for cloud resources and applications
• Create and enforce security controls, compliance requirements, and governance policies across AWS environments
• Implement and optimize cost management strategies, including resource tagging, usage monitoring, and automated cost allocation
• Build self-service capabilities for development teams to provision and manage cloud resources
• Architect and maintain CI/CD pipelines for application and/or infrastructure deployment(s)
• Monitor and optimize cloud platform performance, reliability, and security
• Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain security controls and respond to security incidents
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on cloud initiatives
• Create and maintain documentation for platform services and processes

Who You Are:

• 5-8 years of relevant platform engineering or related field experience
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (preferably CDK)
• Proven experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g., EKS, ECS)
• Extensive knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance frameworks
• Experience with CI/CD tools and methodologies
• Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, etc.)
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, etc.)
• Knowledge of networking concepts and implementation in AWS
• Strong understanding of cost optimization strategies in cloud environments

Preferred Qualifications:

• AWS Professional level certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer)
• Experience with multi-account AWS organizations and landing zone implementation
• Background in implementing FinOps practices
• Experience with cloud governance and compliance frameworks (SOC2, HIPAA, etc.)
• Background in building developer platforms or internal developer tools
• Experience in the healthcare or biotechnology industry, specifically in diagnostics or medical devices, is highly desirable
