Senior Cloud Platform Engineer
Job Description
This role may be located in Eden Prairie, Kansas City, Chicago, or Seattle.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of complex Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, including the creation of custom modules and plugins
- Build automation and pipeline capabilities for delivery of platforms and infrastructure
- Oversee and ensure production readiness of new technologies/systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues in a timely manner, including root cause analysis and problem resolution
- Maintain documentation of infrastructure architecture and configurations, including the creation of technical guides and best practices
- Participate in cross-training, architectural design, capacity planning, and recommendations for future state
- Partner with community on best-practices, patterns, and practices for leveraging different technologies, and ensure adoption within teams
- Assist with engineering efforts to reduce occurrence of failures, and ensure coping strategies are in place for failures
- Identify monitoring/alerting/observability needs, and influence team culture to bring this rigor into the daily development cycle
- Partner with AppDev and infrastructure teams on evaluation and feasibility assessment of new systems and technologies
- Stay up to date with new technologies and best practices in cloud engineering
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of technology experience with steadily increasing responsibilities
- 2+ years of enterprise experience with cloud development, and/or maintaining, supporting, and deploying to cloud environments
- Expert level knowledge of Terraform and IaC principles, including the ability to design and implement advanced Terraform configurations
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Ruby, Go), with the ability to write custom automation scripts and plugins
- Strong ability to build custom cloud tooling and automation scripts, including the ability to integrate third-party tools and services
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, including the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
- Proven mentorship experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience and a high school diploma/GED
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the Microsoft Azure ecosystem
- Certification in one or more major cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Certified Solutions Expert, Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect)
- Proficiency with containerization, and container orchestration - preferably Kubernetes
- Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
- Strong Linux operating systems skills
- Proficiency using metrics to measure and monitor application and infrastructure performance, and experience using APM/monitoring tools (ex. AppDynamics, Splunk, Prometheus, etc.)
- Experience with automated testing (functionality, performance, volume)
- Familiar with basic security principles (certificates, identity management, authorization, etc.)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Understanding of network and security concepts
- Experience with data management/movement and data platforms (ex. MSSQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Kafka)
