We are seeking a Senior Commercial Counsel as the second hire to our growing Commercial, Legal team! This person will have an exciting opportunity to help build our commercial function, across procurement, sell-side, and strategic partnership support. You will also have the exciting opportunity to negotiate and support complex and strategic agreements for our suite of highly regulated products (including embedded insurance, embedded fintech, human resource integrations, and international services). What it is like to Work with Gusto
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Build scalable and effective processes for procurement, sell-side, and strategic partnership contracts (templates, workflows, playbooks, and trainings).
- Partner closely with our Finance, IT, Security teams to scale the procurement process.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts (vendor contracts, consulting agreements, service agreements, advertising agreements, and NDA/MNDAs)
- Draft, negotiate, and review a wide variety of complex agreements, including product partnerships, SaaS, IaaS, enterprise, and license agreements.
- Identify and evaluate both business and legal risks, and find creative solutions to mitigate them while achieving business goals.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- JD degree and a member of a State Bar/active license to practice law.
- 6+ years of combined legal experience in a technology transactions department at a law firm and an in-house legal department with a high-growth technology company.
- Experience drafting and negotiating a wide variety of agreements, including complex agreements.
- Excellent communicator, strong negotiator and detail oriented drafting skills
- Highly responsive, accountable, growth mindset and service-oriented attitude in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to effectively prioritize and advance several deals simultaneously, often on tight deadlines
- A team player mindset (no job is too big or too small).
- A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, cross-functionally, and independently.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $179,000 - $221,000/year in Denver & most remote locations, and $208,000 - $257,000/year for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
