Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a Senior Communications/Outreach Manager with a strong background in strategic communications to support innovative science efforts for a federal client within the science and engineering field. The manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the communications and outreach efforts for the market intelligence outreach efforts, which include stakeholder engagement and regional events.

This position requires a strategic mindset, familiarity with the research and development (R&D) landscape, and a clear understanding of writing and research best practices. A successful candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and motivated to succeed. S/he should be able to work comfortably both independently and as part of a larger team and will be expected to contribute to finding innovative solutions to complex problems.

This is a Senior-level, full-time position located in Alexandria, VA. This is a remote position but may require attending in-person meetings. This is a contingent hire.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop communications and outreach efforts to be implemented regionally across the country as part of a national program expansion
  • Responsible for demonstrating exemplary strategic communication and problem-solving skills with business owners, peers, management, and contract staff.
  • Responsible for making communications decisions related to overall project quality.
  • Responsible for exhibiting knowledge, skills, and ability to plan, conduct, adhere to timelines, and supervise work to be completed under this contract.
  • Responsible for exhibiting knowledge of strategic intent and opportunities.
  • Translating agency strategy into tangible executable actions and deliver the results needed to satisfy the vision supporting the strategy.
  • A strong writer and editor for a wide range of content to include technical and scientific content to writing short and catchy promotional content.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong multitasker and comfortable with Microsoft Office, graphic design tools, and collaboration tools (including Zoom, Box, and Slack).
  • Responsible for collaborating with creative team members to guide the development of imagery to accompany the content.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in communications and outreach.
  • BA/BS in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field
  • Experience developing and executing communication plans, campaigns, and products, including incorporating events into communications plans.
  • Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience in media relations, and working with public affairs offices in a federal agency setting
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
