ABOUT THE ROLE

Our engineering organization is comprised of three primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE) and, Product Validation.

The Product Validation Department is focused on integration of new technologies and testing of the next generation of GILLIG products and major upgrades to our existing product line. These efforts may consist of:

  • Zero-Emission powertrains
  • New technology integration
  • Quality or performance improvements
  • Cost reduction and complexity reduction initiatives as well as product stability improvements

We are looking for a passionate Validation engineer who desires to play a key role on a winning organization. One who is focused on reliability, quality, and the customer experience being top priority. Someone that has a drive for success, is a great problem solver and has a thirst for product improvement. 

As a Senior Component Validation Engineer, you will support the development of electrical components through Analysis, Development and Validation by collaborating with suppliers and engineering design teams. Assessing supplier capabilities which may require occasional travel, aligning budget objectives and proactive communication are critical to success. You will be responsible to review and approve supplier test plans, remove roadblocks and ensure supplier and 3rd parties test houses complete testing on time to meet program milestones and schedules that align with the Vehicle DVP. In addition, you may be testing software functionality in a HIL or vehicle environment as well as supporting other activities as required.

Testing on vehicles will include developing and deployment of instrumentation and data acquisition methods, data analysis, troubleshooting and supporting root cause analysis activities.

You will work cross-functionally within GILLIG to support process improvement activities and develop/enhance requirements and best practices based on lessons learned from testing.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of Engineering experience in related field
  • Experience with embedded controller design, software development and validation methods
  • Experience writing requirements and developing test procedures
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experienced with:
    • Industry standards such as ISO 16750 series, IEC 60028 series, SAE HD vehicle standards and IEEE standards as related Electrical Hardware testing and practices
    • Software development models and processes
    • J1939 database and CAN tools such as CANalyzer, P-CAN, CANoe, CANApe, etc
  • General knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle industry standards, regulations, and guidelines such as FMVSS, ADA, APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines, NFPA
  • NEC MATLAB, Simulink, instrumentation methods and data acquisition tools
  • Familiarity in 8D, five whys, and fishbone process to diagnose complex issues
  • Comfortable around and experienced with high voltage systems such as DCDC, motor and inverter, Li battery, high-power charger, and safety interlock loop
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. 
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk and occasionally kneel or squat
  • Limited travel may be required
  • Standard start time: 6:00AM (negotiable)

EXPECTED COMPENSATION

$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits 

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
