JOB DESCRIPTION

Alston & Bird is hiring for the position of Senior Conflicts Analyst. Under direction of the Conflicts Manager, this individual will serve as a senior conflict's analyst for lateral hires, conflicts quality control and New Business Intake lead. Other support duties include but not limited to the following:

  • Conflict of interest searches and reports
  • Process NBI forms and any other software systems developed to open new client/matters and assign client/matter numbers
  • Identify and relay any conflict issues and pertinent information to the Conflicts and Loss Prevention partner(s)
  • Assist in maintaining the efficient operation of the department and facility

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist Manager and Loss Prevention partner with the necessary research to aid in conflict decisions and to property identify entities.
  • Identify and apply legal conflicts and related ethical rules in compliance with the Rules of Professional Responsibility and the firm's internal policies.
  • Perform conflict of interest searches for clients, matters, and/or other new business, using the Firm's conflicts and intake database.
  • Review NBI and obtain clarity on parties and positions.
  • Perform data analysis and identify possible issues or "direct conflicts or business issues" e.g. A&B business and risk policy issues, pending laterals, adversities against significant clients etc.
  • Communicate with Loss Prevention with a brief, concise statement of potential conflicts situations recognized in the conflicts reports and supply possible evidence to support.
  • Handle issues related to conflict requests submitted by written or verbal communication methods. Handle calls and issues regarding inquiries on the Conflicts Desk and assist other analysts to determine when to escalate issues.
  • Document all communication; obtain waivers, acknowledgement to close client/ matters.
  • Capture institutional knowledge discovered during conflict resolution.
  • Perform CDD research using various Lexis Nexis, Thompson Reuters, Dun & Bradstreet, S&P and Bureau van Dijk products.
  • Report CDD findings to Loss Prevention and other Attorneys.
  • Assist Manager, Loss Prevention and Business Development with a wide range of research requests and other projects.
  • Assist Manager in testing, training, review and implementation of new software systems.
  • Provide off-hours coverage to attorney and other firm staff.
  • Review and provide a thorough and timely analysis of all lateral candidates.
  • Help NBI Analysts problem solve and keep track of the degree of difficulty of the problem.
  • Undertake various related special projects as required.

SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Proven track record of professionalism interacting with all levels of personnel; including Attorneys and Senior level staff.
  • Make efficient use of time in order to handle workload and excellent follow through skills with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • High level of discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent follow through.
  • Must have ability to accept direction and constructive feedback.
  • Willingness to work overtime.
  • Strict attention to detail is necessary.
  • Ability to problem-solve creatively and establish effective working relationships throughout the Firm.
  • Ability to effectively handle telephone calls with established Firm etiquette and professionalism.
  • Thorough knowledge of Firm and Administrative Support Service standards, practices and procedures to meet Firm personnel demands.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 2+ years of relevant Conflicts research and analysis experience is preferred.
  • Juris Doctorate is preferred.
