SUMMARY:
Northern Trust Alternative Fund Services ("AFS") is a Global fund administrator specializing in administering assets of hedge funds, private equity managers, managed account platforms investing in alternative strategies and alternative fund of funds. This role is on a high-profile Client dedicated team within Reconciliation & Control. The candidate will operate independently and have working knowledge or interest in global financial products from a risk and control perspective. Helps to carry out activities that are large in scope, cross functional and technically difficult. Uses specific knowledge of a discipline to achieve goals through own work. Has specific knowledge or expertise typically gained through formal education or equivalent experience. Helps to solve complex problems. Works independently and escalates when guidance is needed. May have accountability for on-going activities, projects or objectives.
MAJOR DUTIES:
• Assists in oversight of automated reconciliations across global equity, fixed income, cash and derivative markets.
o Ensures reconciliations are produced within service agreement timelines, typically prior to market open.
o Proactively escalates issues delaying the reconciliation with manager and partners with manager to escalate with client senior management or broker senior relationship managers. Works towards understanding root cause and how to remediate.
o Learns set up of new reconciliations for new asset classes that are scalable. May assist with defining reconciliation business requirements, walkthroughs with client/IT, testing and escalation of any roadblocks or issues.
• Becomes a subject matter expert on proprietary reconciliation tool. Includes understanding House data, Broker data, how the data is normalized and matching logic
o Works towards Independently answering questions from operation teams on reconciliation logic
• Promotes Reconciliation Efficacy
o Uses analytical metric tools to ensure reconciliation exceptions are indicative of risk
§ Perform historical trend analysis and summarize for manager review
o Ensures reconciliation exceptions are routed to correct operation team and updates are implemented timely
• Excellent written and oral communication skills leveraged to interact 1:1 or in group settings with senior client management and internal partners
• Partner with North America team on audit related tasks including monthly reviews
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• Working knowledge of trading lifecycle across multiple product / asset classes
• Flexible and adaptable to change; capable of being a 'change agent' to identify and drive productivity transformation
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills ("solutions-oriented" mindset)
• Client relationship focused (internal and external relationships)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Applies best practices and how own area integrates with others
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with accuracy
EXPERIENCE:
• 2-5 years' experience in relevant industry preferred
• A College or University degree and relevant proven work experience
• Experience with software development either through testing or business analysis
• Experience with Investment Management and/or Financial Services; Alternative Asset Management specific
