Senior Container Platform Engineer

C.H. Robinson is seeking a Senior Container Platform Engineer to take charge of operational support for Kubernetes Platforms. In this crucial role, you'll serve as a technical expert for the Kubernetes Platform team, providing support for infrastructure platforms across on-premises and cloud environments, as well as auxiliary tools and the wider Kubernetes ecosystem. Your collaboration with the operations team will be instrumental in enhancing features, reliability, and stability within the platform. The Senior Container Platform Engineer will collaborate with U.S.-based and global teams to ensure the delivery and maintenance of a robust Kubernetes ecosystem. As such, you may be asked to cover alterative shifts and be a part of a weekly On Call rotation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position consists of, but are not limited to, the following:

• Ensure 24x7 availability and performance of container systems, leading the definition of the engineering lifecycle and practices in collaboration with the Principal Container Platform Engineer
• Automate repetitive tasks through script writing to reduce time, minimize errors, and enable efficient delegation of support duties
• Identify and minimize gaps in testing coverage, translating high-level customer requirements into detailed designs for solving complex business problems
• Design solutions aligned with the long-term plan for services or products based on deep expertise and customer insights
• Document standards and operational approaches for the Kubernetes environment, staying current with industry standards and technologies
• Mentor and coach platform engineers, ensuring the performance and availability of tools and systems through real-time monitoring and triage
• Review dashboards for application telemetry, deploying updates and fixes into Kubernetes environments
• Provide operational support, perform root cause analysis for system errors, and conduct basic installation and configuration of Kubernetes clusters
• Monitor and troubleshoot scalable applications and tools, collaborating with support, engineering, and development teams for sustainable solutions

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IS, MIS, or other technology degree or minimum of 4 years of equivalent work experience
• Minimum 4 years of Kubernetes enterprise experience and/or equivalent years of maintaining, deploying, and demonstrating operational support of container runtimes to production systems (ex. Swarm, Containerd, Docker)
• Experience working in a public cloud environment (ex. Azure cloud)

Preferred:

• Demonstrate previous experience in establishing and utilizing processes and metrics to manage support activities
• Experience with modern scripting languages (Bash, Yaml, Python)
• Experience with basic security principles
• Experience with version control systems (ex. GIT, GitHub, TFS, etc.)
• Experience with development tool sets (code repositories, build engines, deployment tools)
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and associated tooling or scripting (ex. Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
• Experience using APM/monitoring tools (ex. Datadog, Prometheus, etc.)
• Experience with CI/CD continuous integration / continuous deployment practices
• Proficient Kubernetes routing and load-balancing experience (Nginx/NSX/Other)
• Proficiency with Linux
• Proven track record of effectively delivering results in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities

Compensation Range

$83,500.00 - $185,400.00
