Senior Content Editor

Greenleaf Integrative (www.greenleafintegrative.com) provides training and support services to humanitarian and development organizations to enhance the resiliency and performance of professionals working in demanding/overseas environments. 

The Senior Content Editors will ensure adherence to all established standards for the delivery of the right content, at the right time, delivered via the right medium. They will collaborate across the training unit to support the client’s branding and ensure its standards are present in all products. They will use a combination of data analysis, contact analysis, end-user research, copyright regulations, and best practices to make content decisions and edits. 

This position supports a government client based in Washington, DC. This hybrid position allows for telework but requires an in-office commitment on a weekly basis.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for conceptualizing, producing, editing, and analyzing content; researching, proofreading, re-structuring, and editing content for training and online content development purposes. 
  • Responsible for synthesizing and curating internal and customer-facing content, including managing collaborative development and review processes. 
  • Identify errors of fact, factual inconsistencies, and contradictions; verify accuracy of statements, figures, illustrations, and subject matter terms; compare illustrations, photographs, tables, and charts to ensure continuity and consistency with text; and checks citations against original sources to verify their use.
  • Determine product suitability for intended media and audience, edits for the clear and cogent presentation of the subject matter.
  • Analyze readership data and develop content strategies to increase reader engagement and retention. 
  • Fact-check content and ensure the use of proper spelling, grammar, and syntax in outputs. 
  • Develop and curate written content for both traditional and digital formats and for various purposes and audiences. 
  • Create engaging and targeted messaging that resonates with the client’s branding, standards, and style guide. 
  • Collaborate with other specialists, including graphic designers, trainers, instructional designers, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) specialists, and knowledge management specialists to ensure the expectations of a project are being met in terms of message, tone, accuracy, and quality.
  • Review, assess, and edit documents to ensure compliance with Section 508 requirements and copyright regulations. 
  • Participate in the analysis and identification of current and future communication needs. 
  • Apply working awareness and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple, simultaneous projects to reach targets, staying on schedule and within the scope of work demonstrating strong conceptual and analytical skills, planning abilities, and sound judgment.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Understand and maintain the branding identity strategy for the client.
  • Manage workflow, communicate team needs, oversee employees' performance, and provide guidance and support to the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements 

  • Minimum years of relevant experience (varies by highest degree):
  • Journalism, English, Communications, Writing, Linguistics, Publishing, Education, or relevant field
    • Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of related work experience OR
    • Master’s degree with 12+ years of related work experience
    • Ph.D. with 8+ years of related work experience
  • US Citizenship 
  • Ability to obtain an interim and final Secret security clearance 

​​​​​​​Required Experience 

  • Senior-level experience communicating conceptual content to be relatable, clear, and concise.
  • Senior-level experience analyzing and interpreting written material.
  • Proven experience analyzing and correcting documents for section 508 compliance. Experience following the guidance under section 508.
  • Knowledge of copyright and fair use of state and federal laws and regulations to ensure that graphic design products meet legal standards.
  • Proven experience using software to identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and hyperlinks. 
  • Experience with digital product development, online training, or virtual education for adult learning education.
  • Content editor subject matter expert, including recommendations on best practices for content development.

Preferred Experience 

  • Experience with Content Management Systems
  • Experience working in the Training and Development field
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems used for adult learning education
  • Familiarity with SEO and keyword research
  • Familiarity with universal design for learning principles
  • Experience with: 
    • International humanitarian and disaster relief 
    • Federal civilian agencies 
    • Adobe Suite
    • Creating style guides, and templates
    • HTML and/or CSS

Required Skills 

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Superior technological skills; high skill level with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word), Google Suite, and publishing tools; ability to learn new software and databases quickly.
  • Demonstrated senior-level experience and knowledge of best practices for content development and analysis.
  • Strong project management skills. Ability to complete and balance multiple projects while demonstrating strong conceptual and analytical skills, planning abilities, and sound judgment.
