The Senior Corporate Accountant contributes to all aspects of Statutory and GAAP accounting, general accounting reconciliation and research, necessary treasury and accounts payable support, financial reporting and general accounting system support for the finance team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Â
- Prepares general ledger journal entries and reconciliations including, the areas of investments, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, premiums receivable, and others as assigned.
- Supports the Group’s investment accounting and reporting by working with our investment management and accounting vendors. Tracks and prepares appropriate documentation for transactions related to state statutory deposit and securities pledging requirements.
- Supports timely completion of policyholder dividend calculations, payments, and compliance.
- Supports monthly deductible billing invoicing and collateral processes.
- Provides input and initiates process improvement for new and existing policies and procedures, financial reporting and monthly financial statements within JD Edwards system or other finance specific hosted products, subscriptions of vendor specific products.
- Provides annual or ad hoc support for external financial statement auditors, external rating and regulatory agencies and internal audit requirements as well as reporting needs for internal business partners.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with 3+ years’ work experience in accounting or equivalent work and education experience.
- An understanding of complex accounting procedures, strong analytical skills, and the ability to take initiative on projects requiring communication with internal or external partners.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills at all levels across the organization as well as with external business partners.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to adjust to shifting priorities and work on multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Strong time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products, Excel and Word in particular
Working Conditions:Â
- Normal office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise and temperature variations.
- Willingness to travel among company sites as needed.
- Will be required to stand and/or sit for extended periods.
- Will be required to work with a Video Display Terminal.
- May be required to do occasional reaching and bending.
- May be required to occasionally exert physical effort (lifting/carrying) using appropriate equipment if needed.
- Full-time required.
