The Team You’ll Work With

The Editorial & Content Team is a scrappy team of content strategists and journalists. We’re passionate about democratizing equity ownership, increasing access to financial education, bringing valuable insights and data to the venture ecosystem, and spreading the word about Carta.

The team sits within the Marketing team, which encompasses Marketing, Business Development, and Policy & Government Affairs. Your teammates have won on Jeopardy!; written novels and nonfiction books; reported for The Information, the Wall Street Journal, and PitchBook; and covered the world’s hottest startups at AWS.

The Problems You’ll Solve

Carta is building a team to help us become the premier resource for information about equity ownership, capital markets, and contrarian company building. As the senior corporations editor at Carta, your work will help us solve several content problems:

  • Strategy: You’ll stay on top of our audience, subject matter, trends, competitive landscape, and business needs to create stories and series that startup founders and leaders would find wildly helpful. You’ll be the content lead on several cross-functional teams, collaborating with stakeholders to deeply understand business needs and use them to inform your strategy.
  • Creation: You’ll tell high-impact stories to different audiences, working with staff writers to create them. You’ll partner with the greater team to find the best ways to tell these stories across platforms.
  • Team management: You’ll manage staff writers, both by editing and guiding their work and by being their direct upline report, working with them on overall career development and skill building.
  • Efficiency: You’ll drive progress of initiatives and articles, seeking cross-functional buy-in and leaning on strong communication and resource management to push many pieces forward at once. You’ll contribute to workflows and guidelines that help us scale our output.
  • Structure: You’ll line edit for meaning, style, flow, voice, and our prime directive of helpfulness. incorporating best practices for SEO as well as various writing techniques.
  • Performance: You’ll set goals for these initiatives. You’ll monitor and report on their performance to goals, identify ways to change strategy when needed based on your results.
  • Perspective: As needed, you’ll also write pieces that bring insight to topics that matter to Carta’s audiences.
The Impact You’ll Have
  • You’ll tell the story of a changing private markets environment to startup founders and leaders, identifying the trends and explaining why they matter.
  • You’ll demystify complicated topics and products to tell a coherent story anyone can understand.
  • You’ll act as a liaison between Carta and its customers, ensuring that it’s a two-way conversation.
  • You’ll use Carta data and multi-sourced reporting to develop a portfolio of writing on the startup experience—from how they’re navigating  that will make you an authority on the subject.
About You

You are an exceptional editor who is passionate about working collaboratively to create new, compelling content and drive results. You believe that complex topics can be explained well without condescension. You have clear focus at several depths of field, from finding the big, high-impact ideas to maintaining a needle-sharp structure and style—but your heart is set on making each piece land meaningfully. You have a newsroom sensibility and a strategic marketing mind. You’re the master of your assignments, driving them through development, buy-in, line editing, publication, and learning from their performance.

You ask what could be rather than what is today, would rather get things right than be right, and would enjoy “yes, and” content brainstorm sessions as part of your weekly cadence.

Ideally, you’re also plugged into the venture ecosystem, with a strong grasp of equity fundamentals and a genuine empathy for founders. If celebrating the innovations of founders and startup leaders brings light to your eyes, if you have genuine empathy with their need to make crucial decisions in a quickly changing landscape, if you want to join us on our quest to demystify the intentionally opaque world of equity and private markets, and if you have a portfolio of incredible content you’ve made for multiple audiences, voices, goals, and channels: Let’s talk.

We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing a positive interview experience for every candidate. If accommodations due to a disability or medical condition are needed, connect with us via email at [email protected]. As a company, we value fairness, helpfulness, transparency, leadership and build our teams around these values. Check out our careers page to get to know us better as you think about your next step at Carta.
