Job Description

Lunar Energy, Inc. is looking for a qualified Senior Cost Accountant to help analyze, develop and be part of the implementation of cost accounting solutions. This person will be responsible for all cost functions including inventory, COGS, capital expense, and eventually standard cost roll-ups. This person can be a straightforward cost accountant or a financial analyst with a cost background. The role is full-time, hybrid schedule and the candidate must enjoy a start-up environment!


On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…

  • Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary, analyze inventory evaluation, and validate the cost of goods sold Prepare various inventory and cost accounting entries and account reconciliations
  • Analyze the current cost accounting solution implemented by the company
  • Develop and maintain reporting on margins by product
    Develop and maintain reporting on variances and their causes
  • Validate unit cost perpetual average, WIP valuation and integrity of physical inventory count programs
  • Recommend ongoing process solutions to keep the integrity of the cost data
  • Work closely with in-house IT to test and implement corrective solutions as needed
  • Work with operations team as needed to implement inventory flow and process improvements
  • Assist in upcoming NetSuite system implementation
  • Assist with fluctuation analysis explanations for various components of worldwide gross margins for both domestic operations and foreign subsidiary
  • Review manufacturing variances and work with operations teams to reduce these variances
  • Analyze perpetual average costs and review the cost roll-ups for products, production, and service operations and investigate/resolve large variances prior to quarterly finalization 
  • Work with operations teams to analyze inventory for potential excess and obsolete reserves and make related entries in accordance with the company’s policies
  • Maintain relationships with business partners and finance peers to address information reporting needs
  • Interact with internal/external auditors and provide various analysis and audit schedules and work to ensure compliance with all internal control procedures
  • Develop and document controls, processes and procedures related to manufacturing accounting and inventory
  • Perform ad hoc projects periodically upon request

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (with emphasis in Accounting
  • Manufacturing experience (5 years +) with perpetual average and eventually standard costing, manufacturing variances, overhead and indirect absorption costs 
  • Analytical thinker with attention to details and strong problem-solving skills with a laser focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Detailed experience with inventory and COGS accounts reconciliations and related accounting
  • General understanding of item and BOM structure in manufacturing environment
  • Experience with month-end closing and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent computer skills including advanced MS Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with a variety of other functional areas including operations and warehouse teams
  • Strong experience with NetSuite is REQUIRED
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direct daily supervision
  • Must be a team player and comfortable working in a collaborative environment
