Senior Cost Accountant
Job Description
This position is responsible for directly supporting all day-to-day activities of the cost accounting function for a leading US Orthodontic Manufacturer/Distributor. This includes analyzing manufacturing variances, inventory analysis, standard costing, excess and obsolete inventory, CapEx, and some accounting functions. These could include: journal entries, preparation of supporting schedules, compiling analysis and root cause information for month end close and related data. In addition, requires the analysis and review of financial information for accuracy as well as trends.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proactive analysis of Cost of Sales expenses purchased and manufacturing variances and communication of issues and opportunities to Operations Management including reports and metrics.
- Perform monthly/quarterly closing activities including but not limited to, reconciling the perpetual inventory reports to the general ledger, cost of sales variance analysis, valuation of capitalized variances, inventory reserve calculations, and sales tax.
- Compiles cost of sales data for use in developing operating budgets and monthly forecasts.
- Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and to prepare financial reports.
- Analyzes sales tax transactions and prepares reports required by outside sales tax agencies.
- Finance representative for Engineering & Quality departments. Serve as liaison to department managers, acting as first point of contact and assisting them with accounting related questions and issues.
- Drive the improvement of the quality of the standard costing process by analyzing bills of material, routers, production order product structures, and comparing standard cost with last cost for both purchased and manufactured product.
- Collects, summarizes, and interprets financial data to prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Interfaces with all departments to collect, verify, and provide financial support.
- Identifies problems, their possible causes and gathers relevant information for the purpose of improving existing processes.
- Assists with monthly & quarterly reporting to parent company.
- Performs Sox 404 testing and ensure controls are being maintained and documented.
- Works on special projects, as requested.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
Typically 5 to 7 or more years of increasing responsibility in terms of any applicable professional experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Typically a Bachelor's Degree or global equivalent in related discipline. Master's degree or global equivalent a plus. May hold one or more industry certifications; professional certification may be required to advance.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Advanced Excel
- Strong knowledge of ERP Integrated G/L.
- Knowledge of Hyperion (HFM or PBCS), or comparable system preferred.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts

- Performing duties in a professional way, supporting Ortho Organizers' Quality Policy. Must understand, follow and comply with regulatory requirements as applicable to various processes. An understanding of FDA Quality System Regulations (21 CFR 820) and ISO Standards (ISO 13485) is required.
TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Travel typically less than 10%. Office environment. No special physical demands required.
