Job Description
We’re looking for a pragmatic solution-oriented employment and litigation lawyer to join our Legal team. In this role you’ll be responsible for overseeing employment and general litigation matters as well as providing legal guidance across a broad range of employment-related issues including employee relations internal investigations regulatory compliance and dispute resolution. We anticipate that the responsibilities for this role will be divided between employment advice/counsel and employment litigation (75%) and general litigation matters (25%).
An ideal candidate would have 6-10 years of broad experience handling both employment and general litigation matters including a proven track record of navigating the nuances of various federal and state employment laws managing complex discovery in a digital-first environment and balancing risk with business priorities.
Location: This role can work in any of Reddit’s U.S. offices (SF LA Chicago NYC) or remotely from within the U.S.
What You’ll Do:

Oversee and manage a wide range of employment and general litigation matters. You will drive case strategy ensure cost-effective representation and manage outside counsel through all phases of the litigation lifecycle from discovery and motions to trial and/or arbitration.

Assist in fact finding and internal reviews of potential claims to provide early assessments of a case’s strengths and defenses to inform overall legal and business strategy.

Respond to third-party subpoenas and similar requests pre-litigation demand letters and administrative charges (EEOC/CRD).

Serve as a strategic proactive and pragmatic legal partner and collaborator to our Human Resources Talent Acquisition People Operations Compensation Benefits and Contingent Workforce Public Policy Trust & Safety Policy teams and other internal stakeholders on employment-related and general litigation matters.

Advise on and direct employment legal matters including those relating to employee relations recruitment wage/hour terminations reductions in force leaves of absence privacy mobility compensation benefits international expansion M&A executive compensation and contingent workforce.

Prepare review and advise on employment agreements and policies including offer letters handbooks compensation plans and separation agreements.

Conduct internal investigations worker classification assessments and other employment-related audits.

Drive innovation by providing legal review and advice regarding the e-Discovery process AI utilization and the evaluation of outside counsel performance and spend.

Actively monitor evolving laws and regulations affecting substantive legal areas and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For:

JD top academic background and a current license in a state bar in the United States.

6-10 years of employment law experience preferably with a mix of big law firm training and in-house experience at a tech or fast-paced company.

Extensive litigation experience with preference for candidates who have experience with all phases of litigation.

Deep knowledge of U.S. employment laws including Title VII ADA ADEA FMLA FLSA and related state and local equivalents as well as laws related to intermediary liability issues.

Experience with California employment law.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong soft skills with the ability to build relationships with legal team members colleagues and internal stakeholders at all levels.

Team-oriented with experience working in a diverse and remote working environment.

In addition to base salary this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units and depending on the position offered it may also be eligible to receive a commission. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including skills depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials and may vary from the amounts listed below.
The base salary range for this position is:
$230000—$322000 USD
