Position Summary/Objective

The Senior Creative Director plays a pivotal role in providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and project management expertise for all aspects of Hearst's corporate marketing materials. This includes overseeing the design and conceptualization of email and newsletters, advertisements, corporate websites, annual reviews, special projects, print and digital initiatives, events, and social media campaigns.

Working with the VP / Executive Creative Director, the Senior Creative Director establishes the visual strategy for Hearst and guides the development of Hearst branding, ensuring consistency and the highest level of creative accomplishment across all Creative Communications projects.

This position reports to the VP / Executive Creative Director.

Essential Functions

  • Develop a deep understanding of corporate marketing initiatives, priorities, and strategy, ensuring that the strategy is communicated within the team and is reflected in all Creative Communication projects.
  • Demonstrate expertise in knowledge of the businesses of Hearst, understanding individual brand strategies and market positioning to ensure a consistently modern voice.
  • Manage assignment of projects across the Creative Communications team, procuring and engaging third party resources as necessary, based on staff capacity, skill set, and project priorities.
  • Manage high profile projects from concept through to delivery. Willingness to contribute "hands on" participation on projects as needed.
  • Maintain up to date working knowledge of available tools and software including Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Keynote, and website design, After Effects, UX design, HTML.
  • Ensure up-to-date team capabilities on design and marketing trends in all forms of visual communications, continuously exploring cutting-edge, current, and unique design styles and imagery, sharing trends and tools within the team.
  • Proactively seek opportunities for development and skill enhancement for the team, through assignment of projects, recommendations for training, and by identifying opportunities for promotion.
  • Promote smart problem-solving strategies with clients, support collaboration within Creative Communications and across Corporate Communications and Corporate Events and ensure this is the team's approach with all clients and projects.
  • Set and enforce quality and creativity standards, ensuring consistent visual strategy and branding across all Hearst divisions and businesses.
  • Establish processes and practices to ensure quality standards, style consistency, and timely project delivery.
  • Inspire, develop, mentor, motivate, and hire a passionate and highly talented team of designers and freelancers with a wide variety of design, coding and UX, video/film skill sets.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop smart problem-solving strategies, ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and collaboration within the Creative Communications team.

Supervisory (Management) Responsibility

  • Management of Assistant Creative Directors and their teams.
  • Engagement with Project Management Team for best design solutions and scheduling
  • Liaise with Marketing Communication and Events Teams for production calendar and projects

Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of design software including Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Keynote, After Effects, and UX design.
  • Familiarity with web design, HTML, electronic communications tools, and platforms such as Sailthru, SquareSpace, Canva, and Figma.
  • Experience with animation, logo development, branding systems, and print collateral production.
  • Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe XD, After Effects, PowerPoint, Keynote
  • Premiere Pro, Sailthru, SquareSpace, Canva, Figma

Deliverables include but are not limited to electronic communications (web design, elevator screens, e-vites, e-newsletters), presentations, animation, logos and branding systems, printed collateral (brochures, invitations, signage and posters).

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City, is $160,000-$180,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
