Summary of Position:

The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for identifying and resolving issues throughout the development of analytical solutions and is accountable for identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in workflow processes in the implementation of these solutions. This position's primary responsibility is to design, create, and deploy analytical solutions for executive leadership and other key stakeholders within the organization. The data analyst will frequently take a formal or an informal lead on project tasks, and leads efforts to design and implement analytic solutions, including reports, dashboards, and views from a wide range of existing data sources, and provides leadership in evaluating and optimizing these solutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, create and develop analytical solutions and by providing internal consultation and project management
  • Take on a leadership role in facilitating and gathering business requirements, and provide knowledge in business/department processes, analytical expertise, technical programming skills
  • Assure integrity of the data for current and future use in strategic initiatives, continuous quality improvement efforts, and organizational goals, and ensure the sustainability and adaptability of all developed solutions
  • Provide consultative services to internal customers, supporting organizational goals and initiatives
  • Identify potential areas for improvement, and understanding the challenges that the customer is facing to provide maximum value to customers
  • Recommend best practices for analytic solutions while applying expert problem-solving and critical thinking in data analysis
  • Serve as a business/department consultant translating disparate information into cogent analysis and actionable recommendations to drive the business forward
  • Demonstrate initiative and innovation by proactively identifying other opportunities through research and analysis and make recommendations to management that help set strategic and technical direction for the Analytic and Reporting team
  • Provide analytical leadership by working with departments, key organizational leaders, and staff on initiatives
  • Provide expertise to acquire, manage, research, and analyze data and report results; including gaining access to various data source systems, conducting data discovery, creating queries, determining trends in the data, and suggesting recommendations based upon the findings
  • Ensure that system improvement are successfully implemented
  • Lead team to efficiently meet deadlines
  • Adhere to project management methodology guidelines to lead project activities
  • Lead the Interpretation, evaluation, and interrelation of complex data, and develop integrated enterprise analytics analyses for incorporation into strategic decision-making, utilization trending, patient outcome analysis, and quality measurement
  • Lead the team in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information, inconsistencies/anomalies within complex data environments
  • Document clear and concise business requirements, and partner with the data warehouse and engineering team to design, test, and implement business intelligence solutions to support organizational initiatives
  • Translate reporting requirements, business/department needs into analysis for technical approach (data sourcing, methodology, specifications, and documentation)
  • Leads and/or participates in discussions with technical staff and user groups to transfer development activities to technical staff
  • Develop, sustain and continuously improve relations between the project team and key customers and stakeholders
  • Provide analytic expertise, guidance, and research to manage assigned projects, and coordinate issues amongst customers and peers direct and communicate project status, schedules, and risk assessments to managers as well as the project team
  • Willingly share relevant technical and/or industry knowledge and expertise

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee in this position frequently communicates with other co-workers/clients who have inquiries about the various projects and other needs. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time. The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operate a computer and office machinery such as a calculator, keyboard, copy machine and printer. Frequently moves boxes with equipment weighing up to 25lbs across the building and/or to other offsite buildings for various project needs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Science, Computer Science, Math, Business or related field
  • 5+ years of experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Science, Computer Science, Math, Business or related field or a combination of education and experience/technical training that demonstrates analytical and technical competency
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in progressively more responsible work as a data analyst, developer, or equivalent
  • Experience with Cerner, Epic, or similar software products
  • Knowledge of current technologies, practices, and emerging trends in measurement
  • Advanced SQL query development with the ability to develop SQL views
  • Working knowledge of financial operations
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency using Business Objects Web Intelligence, Webi, or Crystal Reports, SQL Server, Tableau (or other dashboarding software), and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & Access)
  • Collaborate and communicate with other colleagues to keep abreast of the latest developments in analytics, decision support systems
  • Strong data visualization and presentation skills
  • Experience working with the development life cycle

  • Extensive professional experience in data analysis and report design/development
  • Extensive knowledge of reporting programs and tools in-depth knowledge and experience with relational database concepts and query tools
  • Understanding of security and privacy issues
  • Strong leadership skills in working with key stakeholders, end-users, and project team members
  • Able to work on projects and other assignments with minimal direct supervision

Preferred

  • At least three (3) years managing medium to large projects using standard project management skills, tools, and methodologies
  • Experience working with the development life cycle
  • Uses logical and basic statistical analyses to make comparisons and detect trends
  • Utilizes established data analysis models and tools for analyzing qualitative or quantitative data
  • Applies fundamental statistical methods to identify correlations and causal relationships
