Position Details:
At Grainger, Product matching associations between products within our catalog and with our competitor's assortment. It is a key capability. Product matching is enabled by a platform comprised of an application written in Java, with data processing in Spark and machine learning services.
As a Data Engineer, you will join a newly established team to model and build key data assets used to power machine learning driven product matching and derive insights that improve the capability. You will work alongside Product, Software Engineers, and Data Scientists to build the platform that will be used across Grainger teams for product matching.
You will be reporting to the Manager of Product Matching Engineering.
Pay:
This position is salaried and will pay between 104,000 to 160,140 with a target bonus of 10%.

You Will:

• Create technical solutions that solve business problems and are well engineered, operable, maintainable, and delivered.
• Design efficient and scalable data processing systems and pipelines on Databricks, APIs, Snowflake, and AWS Services (leveraging Java and Spark).
• Design and implement tools to detect data anomalies. Ensure that data is accurate, complete, and across all platforms.
• Perform exploratory data analysis that inform product and business decisions.
• Provide technical guidance to help data users adopt new data pipelines and tools.
• Develop scalable and re-usable frameworks for ingestion and transformation of large datasets.
• Understand trends and latest technologies. Evaluate the performance and applicability of potential tools for our requirements.
• Work within an Agile delivery / DevOps methodology to deliver product increments in iterative sprints.

You Have:

• 5 years of experience working in batch or streaming ETL using Spark, Python, Scala for Data Engineering or Machine Learning workloads.
• 1-2 years of experience (or relevant coursework) coding Java applications
• Familiarity with AWS Services not limited to Glue, Athena, Lambda, S3, and DynamoDB
• Experience preparing structured and unstructured data for data science models.
• Demonstrated experience implementing data management life cycle, using data quality functions like standardization, transformation, rationalization, linking and matching.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and experience with shell scripting in Bash, Unix or windows shell is preferable.
