The Ascend Learning Healthcare Segment leads the way in innovation and solution creation to improve outcomes and deliver results for students, educators, and healthcare workers in the ever-changing field of healthcare. We offer advanced resources that drive nursing success, empower front-line certified allied health workers, help physicians pass boards and stay current, and provide education management tools for medical education programs.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our data architecture and engineering practices. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure that support our Business Intelligence initiatives. Your expertise in data engineering will be crucial in ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and accessibility for various stakeholders. This position will work from a home office location.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data from various sources - internal and external.
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
• Optimize data storage, data processing, and data retrieval for performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Implement data quality and data governance best practices to ensure data integrity and compliance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex data pipeline issues in a timely manner.
• Work with stakeholders across the organization to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
• Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems
• Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering and recommend their adoption as appropriate.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer, with at least 6 years of experience in designing and implementing data pipelines.
• Proficiency in programming SQL stored procedures, views, and functions.
• Strong experience with data warehousing, ETL processes (both streaming and batch), and data modeling using tools like (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Zappysys, Kafka).
• Proven experience creating and maintaining strong data governance.

Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency with optimization to ensure scalability.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Experience building and optimizing 'big data' data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
• A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
• Strong desire to learn, push the envelope, and share knowledge with others.
• Experience using data reporting and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, SSRS, etc.).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS, including services like S3, Redshift, Data Lake Storage, and Azure SQL Database.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Excellent analytical and time management skills
