We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will focus on building new data pipelines and refactoring existing ones that ingest and transform data from a wide array of sources. You will be part of a team responsible for delivering reliable, accurate, and timely data to our stakeholders. The data you provide will be consumed by data scientists, machine learning experts, executives, stakeholders across the company, and our most important stakeholders: the districts, schools, and teachers relying on BrainPOP. You will work with other passionate Data Engineers, Data Analysts, and Software Engineers to support and maintain our data infrastructure.
This role will be a hybrid position with a requirement to spend some time in the NYC office.
In this role, you will:- Identify and implement improvements to our data ecosystem based on industry best practices.
- Build, refactor, and maintain data pipelines that ingest data from multiple sources.
- Transform and model datasets for myriad business use cases.
- Build and support the tools we use for monitoring data hygiene and the health of our pipelines.
- Support data discovery, certification, and governance initiatives
- Support the machine learning team with automating and deploying machine learning models.
- 5+ years experience working in a modern data engineering environment, including workflow orchestration, pipeline monitoring, warehouse health, etc.
- 4+ years of experience modeling data in a warehouse setting.
- Demonstrated mastery of SQL and fluency in one or more programming languages, python strongly preferred.
- Excellent understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Experience working with our data stack: AWS, Airflow, Snowflake, dbt, Looker/Mode/Tableau.
- Familiarity with analytics and data science.
- Excellent organizational skills.

- Experience with Monte Carlo or other anomaly detection tools
- Experience with Google Cloud and/or Azure
- BS, BA, MS, MA, or Ph.D. in Information Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of work experience in data-centric roles.
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience using CDC, Kinesis, or other streaming technologies.

The starting salary for this role is between $125,000 - $170,000, depending on skills and experience. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. We have competitive pay bands for all other countries based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on several factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. Based on these factors, we expect most candidates offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description, as posted. If so, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.

BrainPOP is a hybrid work environment, allowing employees to self-select (depending on role requirements) where they work–whether fully remote in approved states or in-office in our New York headquarters.
