Senior Data Engineer

Schonfeld Strategic Advisors LLC has an opening for a Senior Data Engineer, Front Office Development in New York, NY and Miami, FL.

The position duties are as follows:  Re-envision Schonfeld’s data platform including the data-processing pipeline, research and back-testing infrastructure in the cloud, which will allow the firm’s Portfolio Managers to analyze data, back-test their strategies, and deploy them to production seamlessly. Utilize strong technology skills, advanced programming languages such as Python and C++, and experience with Cluster/Scheduler software solutions to carry out the following day-to-day job duties:

• Maintaining, enhancing, and optimizing functionality within the Data Platform;
• Creating new functionality within the firm’s data processing pipelines, including integrating new data formats, creating new analytic tools, and enhancing parallel compute capabilities;
• Working on Proof of Concepts (POCs) to find solutions or improvements to the firm’s existing technologies and investigating new technologies for implementation;
• Building, deploying, running, and debugging code at scale on the cloud using containers;
• Collaborating with Portfolio Managers and the Data Science and Data Ops teams to identify functionality and access gaps in loading data sets and ensure that they are closed; and
• Providing mentorship for junior data engineers.

The position requires a a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Intelligence and Analytics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field or foreign equivalent, followed by 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a Data Engineer, Developer, or an equivalent role within the financial services industry. Experience must include:

1. 4 years of experience working with Python, including processing large datasets using cloud components within 60 minutes, writing library-quality, reusable code, understanding data science tools such as Jupyter, and working in an iterative manner following Agile principles;
2. 5 years of experience working with Cluster/scheduler software solutions;
3. 3 years of experience processing, analyzing and supporting global equities and futures market data, including expressing data quality score cards for datasets;
4. 3 years of experience building, deploying, running, and debugging code on the cloud;
5. 3 years of experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to process large datasets using AWS serverless services, and to understand and implement AWS roles and permissioning;
6. 5 years of experience handling Level 3 support issues; and
7. 4 years of experience with high volume (terabyte and petabyte scale) “five-nines” high availability distributed systems.

Telecommuting permitted up to two (2) days per week.

The base pay for this role is expected to be between $205,000 to $285,000/year. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as a performance bonus and a competitive benefits package. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
