Performs DB design, optimization, break-fix, recovery, administer DB security, implement automation, new DB features implementation, support & assist with database software installations/upgrades, develop, and administer IMS z/OS v12 and DB2 z/OS v12 mission critical business operational application databases in development, test, pre-production & production data sharing complexes

Qualifications
  • Prefer Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Management, Computer Science Engineering, or related subject
  • Design review meetings, involved in logical design and in converting logical model(s) into a physical database model(s)
  • Re-engineer and optimize mainframe access paths and assist in redesign of very large databases, via new function deployments, for performance reasons and for the inclusion / deployment of new tech-business features
  • Maintain and administer application database security in accordance with zDBMS and organizational approved standards and procedures
  • Generate and deploy new database scripts to implement ISPW back-end application SQL, REST program enablement, deploys
  • Provide maintenance like backups, reorganization, recovery, and database analysis & diagnoses / database error resolution
  • Support major financial applications in an onsite & telecommuter capacity, to conduct the Database Administrator functions - 24x7x366, as required
  • Provide primary DBA design guidance and support services for ensuring those critical mission systems, which run primarily on the mainframe, function with high availability, limited, to ZERO, outages
  • Utilize BMC Admin toolset Change Manager, IBM data studio, IBM visual studio to exploit automation functionality to complete LIFT & SHIFT tasks, across disparate platforms, not just mainframe DBMSs
  • Experience in using IBM, BMC utilities for IMS, DB2 z/OS DBs

  • Recommend performance improvements which optimize and fine-tune AXPs database and operating system data sharing complexes / environments
  • Recommend replat form various existing applications
  • Support mainframe mission critical applications covering WCC SERVICES ACQUISITIONS, REMITTANCES, ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE, MERCHANT, LOYALTY, CORP. etc. Totaling tens of thousands of database instances
  • Frequent activities include database break-fix, recovery, troubleshooting and on call support in a SUPER-HIGH availability environment
  • Provide database security management to ensure systems availability, integrity, and confidentiality
  • Support major financial applications in an onsite & telecommuter capacity, to conduct the Database Administrator functions - 24x7x366, as required
  • Continuous definition, update, and optimization of mainframe DBMS configuration parameters according to data sharing and database tuning requirements, across all tech-DEPTs, in collaboration with the mainframe tech-support departments and teams
  • Maintain standard procedural documentation related to all aspects of operating the mainframe IMS/zDb2 database business computing ecosystem
  • Participate in enablement of high availability / automated database reorganization procedures that minimize business client impacts, improve overall availability and allow for huge data volume scaling
  • Administer to the databases using database monitors, snapshot monitoring and event monitoring - work with MF Infrastructure to push out browser- based toolsets, to enable 21st century tech diagnostic reporting capabilities
  • Create, synch-up and refresh required mainframe IMS & Db2 data Warehouse databases for development, test and production (as directed) environments
  • Identify long running IMS and/or Db2 threads which are not issuing frequent intermediate commits and then guide the application developers on deploying proper coding correction(s). Done proactively because no one is, explicitly, addressing this ongoing coding failure
  • Spearhead team efforts to upgrade to NEW and IMPROVED structure capabilities - e.g., converting OLD zDb2 VSAM tablespaces to massively improved Universal Table Space type structures - to enable PETABYTE data volume growth capabilities and in preparation for zDb2 VERSION 13
  • Assist and provide guidance and support for installation, upgrade, and configuration of zDb2 drivers for application developers, production operations, and business clients, based on URGENT, URGENT calls for - HELP ME NOW type requests from database engineering team
  • Fine-tune and maintain IMS and Db2 for back end applications & configure new REST service interface access to distributed front end cloud based applications - seeking connection to the REAL cloud complex eco-system
  • DRIVE application migration from LUW-db2 to zDb2 MAINFRAME solution.
  • Drive application migration from z/OS to Postgres
  • Legacy platform modernization
  • Research new IMS & Db2 system and application functionality and develop implementation strategies to deploy new zDBMS features and functionality
