Senior Data Engineer, WAN Insights

The name ThousandEyes was born from two big ideas: the power to see what’s not ordinarily possible, and the ability to collect intelligence from vantage points as diverse and global as the Internet. In August 2020, Cisco Systems completed the acquisition of ThousandEyes, which now forms the ThousandEyes Business Unit within Cisco’s Network Services Business Group, and is a foundational component of Cisco’s growing Observability business.

ThousandEyes is looking for a Data Engineer to help us scale our recommendations engine and our first use case, WAN Insights. WAN Insights is the cornerstone of Cisco’s Predictive Networks vision.

In this role you will be contributing to expanding and improving our distributed data processing pipeline and platform. From ingesting large volumes of data to helping our data scientist tackle the scalability challenges, this role offers both breadth and depth. You will often connect cross-functionally and be a reference person when it comes to good software engineering practices and distributed data processing.

Our mission is changing the approach to network optimization: from reactive to preventive. We want to improve the user Quality of Experience by adjusting the network proactively, before any disruption is experienced. If connecting with multiple data sources and making sure your jobs live up to the terabytes challenge to deliver on this mission doesn’t scare you, rather it excites you, then we want to hear from you!

• Solid Computer Science fundamentals.
• Experience with a high-level programming language.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Experience with data processing at scale.
• Strong team-spirit and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to learn and to expand areas of competence.

• Experience with Python and Scala/Java.
• Familiarity with PySpark/Spark.
• Experience working in a cloud environment, ideally AWS.
• Experience with NoSQL databases, e.g., DynamoDB.
• Experience with streaming platforms and tools, e.g., Kafka, Flink.
• Familiarity with shell scripting (unix).
• Understanding of JVM memory management and familiarity with performance profiler tools for Java and Python.
• Experience with Docker, Packer, Terraform, Ansible.
• Understanding of non-basic networking concepts and trends, e.g., SD-WAN, SASE.
