Senior Data Modeler

The Role:

As a Senior Data  Modeler, you will be a key senior  team member responsible for helping make very efficient and effective data models on Snowflake.  Collaborating with other data team members and managers, you will develop an intimate knowledge of our databases and work with our data warehousing and Looker developers, and other stakeholders across the company. You’ll design and architect insightful, concise data modeling solutions to drive the most informed, effective decisions for our business strategy. You will enhance the existing data models, build new data models, and provide full coverage to Newsela business in our enterprise data model.

You’ll be working alongside data analysts and data scientists, who are investigating and answering strategic questions that will impact the product and marketing strategy. You have experience in building complex yet intuitive and performant data models. You can effortlessly  translate business use-cases into  efficient and insightful data models. You think SQL and doing recursion in SQL or building nested and efficient  hierarchies in SQL are the kind of things that motivate you and you are extremely good at. Depending on the use-case, you can decide whether Kimball models make sense or not. Your approach is driven by scalability, extensibility, and sustainability. You don’t shy away from making exceptions to the modeling rules if it makes sense, and you can defend your solutions.
