Senior Data Scientist / Computer Vision Scientist

As a Senior Data Scientist / Computer Vision Scientist in Alcon's Data Science AI/ML function within R&D, you will be trusted to apply analytics and software skills for product development and process automation. The ideal candidate is a scientist with a strong background in Computer Vision, Image Analytics, and/or Machine Learning.

In this role, a typical day will include:

• Applying advanced quantitative methods to solve real-world problems
• Developing algorithms, including, coding, algorithm testing, algorithm validation, and preparing algorithm module pipelines for integration into Software as Medical Device (SaMD)
• Working with multi-modal data (e.g. image, text, video stream) from diagnostics devices and medical equipment to create digital solutions for medical devices

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
• 2 Years of Relevant Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors, M.S. (preferred) or Ph.D. (preferred) in Vision Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Applied Optics, or related quantitative fields
• 3 - 5 years experience or post-doc experience
• Proven experience in applying advanced quantitative methods to solve real-world problems in the medical device industry or equivalent industry/academic experience
• Demonstrable expertise in algorithm development, including, coding, algorithm testing, algorithm validation, and preparing algorithm module pipelines for integration into Software as Medical Device (SaMD)
• Good working knowledge on handling multi-modal data (e.g. image, text, video stream) from diagnostics devices and medical equipment and creating digital solutions for medical devices is desirable
• Good working knowledge on MLOps and DataOps practices for algorithm development. Knowledge on cloud computing environment such as AWS is desirable.
• Advanced expertise in specialized software and other applications used by data scientist for algorithm development and testing (e.g., pre-processing analyses to improve image & video quality, image & video feature extraction prior to machine learning)
• Advanced coding skills, strong learning agility, and good working knowledge of AGILE framework is highly desirable. Proficiency in at least two of the programming langugaes: Python/C++/Matlab.
• Proficiency in one of the deep learning frameworks and algorithm optimization methods for device deployment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams is highly desirable
