Job Description

What You’ll Do:

As a Senior Data Scientist - Reinforcement Learning and Simulation you will develop environment simulations, algorithms, and prototypes that provide insights for key business areas. You also will integrate simulation modeling approaches into Slingshot data science software products and perform simulation-based dataset development, research, insights, and predictions. You will inform data science products, business concepts, and outreach activities.  As a senior member of our Data Science team you will identify and deliver insights through publications, papers, and internal communications.

Position Responsibilities: 
  • Execute all position responsibilities in alignment with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and purpose
  • Participate in a team focussed on innovation through simulation, deep learning, and reinforcement learning
  • Identify new innovation opportunities for Slingshot Aerospace and share those with the larger science organization.
  • Amalgamate key data sources, massage and explore those, and identify analytical and predictive opportunities within
  • Demo, trial, proof, and produce predictive products for Slingshot Aerospace
  • Collaborate with others on the data science, astro science, and engineering teams for the development of software products
  • Develop presentations and written publications describing your discovery process and results
  • Serve as a mentor and informal leader to incoming and junior level data scientists
  • Perform other duties as assigned (to be less than 10% of the responsibilities listed above)
Pre-Requisites
  • Must be a U.S. citizen eligible for government clearances
Minimum Requirements
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or MS plus 2 years experience) in mathematics, data science, physics, or other quantitative discipline.
  • Experience conducting quantitative data science investigations, with emphasis in reinforcement learning, self-supervised learning, graph neural networks, generative models, or agent based modeling.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in algorithm development and implementation in a formal programming language (e.g. Julia, Python, java/kotlin, C/C++).
  • Experience leading and shaping MLops practices and workflows.
  • Ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, evolving operational environment that spans military, government, and industry partners.
  • Solid verbal and written communications skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Published peer reviewed journal articles on a subject employing data science simulation methods for insights, predictions, or dataset creation.
  • Experience with aerospace and astrodynamics research questions
  • Experience developing AI algorithms for use in environmental, physical, or biological behavior prediction
  • Experience leading the development, implementation, and transition of technology to production
