The Community You Will Join:

We are looking for talented Data Scientists to join our Search & Personalization Data Science team. Search is pivotal to the Airbnb marketplace the team works on building a world class search experience for our guests from the homepage to search and listing pages and checkout. Our team is responsible for building the data products inference frameworks and intelligence to create a personalized search experience balancing both the short and long-term health of the marketplace.

The Difference You Will Make:

You will work centrally with other data scientists partnering cross-functionally across the guest search experience host and marketplace teams.

• Develop and utilize models of guest conversion drivers to inform supply management strategies.

• Operationalizing a system to detect suboptimal user paths in the product leveraging user behavioral logs.

• Developing a framework of conversion drivers connecting input metrics to outputs to inform strategies decision-making and track progress on team goals.

• Providing technical mentorship to other data scientists holding a high bar for data products architecture.

A Typical Day:

• Focus time – To build machine learning models develop inference frameworks and build prototypes and other data products to scale your work.

• Autonomy – To apply and investigate state-of-the-art innovations to uplevel Airbnb status-quo approaches to technical problems

• Regularly present work internally to engineering product and business strategy stakeholders to iterate and generate excitement on roadmap progress

• Publish externally and engage with the scientific community to advance Airbnb’s standing

Your Expertise:

• 5+ years of relevant industry experience

• Experience with inference and machine learning techniques

• Experience in high-dimensional data modeling

• Experience with causal inference and structural models

• Experience working on a consumer search product or recommender systems

• Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments

• Expert in at least one programming language for data analysis (Python or R)

• Strong skills in SQL and distributed system optimization (e.g. Hadoop Hive Spark Presto)

• Experience with an ETL framework like Airflow

• Experience with prototyping and writing production code

• Passion for scaling data science work

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed to with your manager.
