Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Production Operations Database Analyst/Administrator to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. As a Database Analyst/Administrator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our production databases. You will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing database performance, as well as implementing and maintaining robust data replication, backup, and recovery procedures.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in database administration, excellent problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for detail.
Responsibilities:
• Monitor and maintain the performance, availability, and security of production databases to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
• Perform routine and proactive database maintenance tasks, such as index tuning, database reorganizations, and data purging.
• Analyze database performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement, implementing necessary changes to enhance performance and scalability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, such as performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and data integrity errors.
• Implement and maintain effective backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity and minimizing downtime in the event of a failure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and system administrators, to optimize database schema designs and query performance.
• Manage database access and security, including user account provisioning, role-based access controls, and data encryption.
• Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements, such as GDPR or industry-specific standards.
• Develop and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures, technical specifications, and data models.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging database technologies and trends, evaluating their potential impact and recommending adoption where applicable.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role, with a focus on production operations and performance tuning.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-based database management systems, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
• Proficiency in database monitoring and diagnostic tools, as well as performance tuning techniques.
• Solid understanding of relational database concepts, including normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience in implementing and managing backup and recovery strategies, including point-in time recovery and disaster recovery solutions.
• Familiarity with database security principles and best practices, including user management and data encryption.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve database-related issues.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Professional certifications in database administration, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
• Experience with cloud-based database platforms, such as Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, or Microsoft Azure SQL Database.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or Apache Cassandra.
• Familiarity with database automation and orchestration tools, such as Ansible or Terraform.
• Understanding of DevOps practices and tools for database deployment and configuration management.
