About the Role

We are looking for two flexible, detail-oriented Sr Database Engineers to join a Database Administration team. We are looking for specialists in either MS SQL Server or Oracle. Engineers are expected to engage with all facets of lifecycle management and application delivery support as well as play an active role in scrum ceremonies for planning and work management. Additionally, strong communication is important as well as people who can work independently and with humility. We work in teams of flexible team players and willing mentors.

This role can be remote but candidate must live within about 1 hour of the Omaha, NE metro area.


On a daily basis you can expect to:
  • Ensure design of current and future database solutions are aligned with the architectural direction.
  • Create detailed technical specifications and design documents.
  • Monitor database system performance and capacity to identify and rectify database errors in a timely manner.
  • Develop scripts and interfaces for database administration process automation.
  • Translate complex functional, non-functional and technical requirements into database KPIs such as availability, recovery, query response time, etc.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation and execution of business continuity and disaster recovery programs.
  • Provide production support and respond to off-hour calls for data storage related problems in a timely manner.
  • Assist in design, implementation, and integration of database systems.
  • Optimize database systems for performance, availability and reliability.
  • Develop database functions, scripts, stored procedures, and triggers to support application requirements.
  • Prepare documentation regarding database design, configuration and change management tasks.
  • Assist in creation and compliance of enterprise database standards as well as organization policies, department policies and industry regulations.

Engage with all facets of the Life Cycle Management and Application Delivery Support (Application and Data Solution Delivery):

  • Build and implement high-quality data storage solutions based on design documents as well functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Perform unit and integration testing to ensure that database components perform according to requirements.
  • Work with application delivery and BI developers on data integration design, this may include mentoring and assistance with project work.
  • Participate in quality assurance and user acceptance testing efforts as needed.

What We’re Looking For:
  • MS SQL Server Oracle
  • Cloud Experience – Azure/AWS
  • Linux
  • Transact SQL Scripting
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or information systems or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration or database engineering.
  • Deep technical knowledge in database administration, database engineering, OS level configuration and administration, software engineering, database architecture, data integration and data processing.
  • Experience in providing technical leadership for database engineers, application, and business intelligence engineers.
  • Advanced knowledge in database architectures and SQL standard languages, T-SQL andor PL/SQL.
  • Advanced knowledge in Windows andor Linux OS systems as well as in Shell and PowerShell scripting.
  • Advanced knowledge in protocols such as DNS, LDAP, SMTP and HTTP.3.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cloud Database Technologies such as Azure andor Oracle Cloud.
  • Strong understanding of data integrity concepts and enterprise data standardizations.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing and data integration.
  • Familiarity with VMWare and SAN management/concepts.
 An especially strong candidate will also have
  • Master’s degree in management information systems, information systems or computer science.
  • Familiar with big data and NoSQL technologies.
  • Familiar with unstructured data and data types.
  • Working experience with business intelligence and database monitoring tools e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, IBM Cognos, Informatica, SSIS, OEM, Idera, and Erwin Data Modeling Tool.
