Senior Database Reliability Engineer

 


The Centre of Expertise (CoE) for Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) supports the organisations strategy by

enabling SRE capabilities towards continuous focus on system health, reliability, availability, capacity,

performance, continuity, and management of IT services.

The Senior Database Reliability Engineer role is a key hands on, multi-skilled role responsible for ensuring resilience and reliability of key journeys on our customer facing systems with a specific focus on databases.

Senior Database Reliability Engineer will work with SRE Engineering squads that will in turn, work both within the SRE CoE and may be seeded into specific tribes that have ownership of key assets. The SRE Engineers within the CoE will drive SRE initiatives, act as product owners and be hands on with development activities associated with the imbedded squads.

Through collaboration with a large set of stakeholders, your work will improve the experience on specific key journeys that are bank-wide (‘site’) impacting for customers.

What you’ll do 

  • Assist in designing complex and/or innovative engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a problem solution or design brief.

  • Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve quality of all workloads and supporting infrastructure to better meet our customer’s needs.

  • Enhancing existing and assist in developing new workloads by analysing and identifying areas for modification and improvement.

  • Identify new external developments and / or emerging issues within an area of technology or business function and evaluate their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.

  • Communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the team; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision and values.

What we’re looking for 

  • 10 years+ experience with databases, mandatory Microsoft SQL and ideally Postgres.

  • Experience with automation, capacity management and performance management practices in the context of database systems.

  • Experience with database migration strategies and migrating complex database solutions to the public cloud.

  • Ideally, Knowledge of Event Driven Architectures leveraging Kafka Event Bus and Debezium / CDC.

  • Someone with a proven track record of curiosity mind-set, problem solving, adaptability and excellent communication skills.
