Senior Design Engineer

SUMMARY

Worksindependently and within a team across departments to design oilfield perforatingguns (wireline and TCP systems), setting equipment (setting tools, plugs, etc),and other mechanical products used in upstream oilfield applications as well asto assist with problem solving while maintaining customer focus. Completes assignments and projects ofincreasingly larger scope requiring knowledge of concepts, methods, andapplication of engineering principles and maintaining a high level of integrityand safety awareness. Ongoing trainingincludes development of new engineering skills related to procedures andmethods in the design, manufacturing, testing and operation of oilfieldexplosives and mechanical hardware as well as deployment of perforating systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include thefollowing. Other duties may be assigned.

• Expected toapply creativity and innovation to the research and development of new productsfrom conception through production.
• Productdevelopment activities include conceptual development of new and improved productsas directed by engineering management in response to customer and industryrequirements.
• Performengineering calculations and thorough analysis of components and systems perapproved engineering standards.
• Responsible tocreate testing procedures and test requests. May include direct involvement with testing programs and relatedpersonnel.
• Guide and assist interdepartmental support which may include technicalproblem solving within the manufacturing, quality, and safety departments. Investigate product non conformances and engineering changerequests and implement changes if necessary.
• Advise and assist customers on a technical level during development,production, and operation of customer specific tools and/or applications.
• Perform minimaldrafting duties (or may request/assign drafting duties) in preparation of newor revised drawings, artwork, and updating and archiving of engineeringdocuments. Preparing layouts anddrawings according to engineering specifications.
• All duties and functions to be performed within time parameters as set bydepartmental and project requirements. Aprofessional attitude should be prevalent representing an eagerness to learnand strong customer awareness.
• Demonstrate and possess specialized knowledge of products, materials, processes, procedures,and industry practices through the technical support of the engineeringdepartment.
• Responsible to direct thedevelopment of product lines and provide guidance to other members of theengineering department and management. No supervision required to fulfill routine job responsibilities.
• Additional responsibilities may includetraining and development of employees, processes, and procedures along withoversight and supervision of daily work assignments and job functions oftechnicians and entry-level technologists and engineers.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor ofScience / Engineering degree plus relevant experience (prefer 15 years relatedexperience) OR Graduate level Science/ Engineering degree plus relevant experience (prefer 10 years relatedexperience).

Education mustmeet eligibility requirements for registration as a Professional Engineer (asspecified by the local state or provincial Board of Professional Engineers). Completionof various design and drafting courses including experience and/or training inthe use of computer aided design software and engineering analysis software.Experience and/or training with Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, and Cosmospreferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to readand comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence and technicaldocumentation. Ability to effectivelypresent information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employeesof the organization. Ability to conductpresentations to intra-company, customers and management.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver'slicense and a good driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employeewill have a daily involvement in the assembly and testing of tools. Reasonable physical strength and aptitude isrequired to lift tool assemblies and test equipment including concrete targetsand perforating guns. Further strengthand aptitude is required to use a variety of power and hand tools. The operation of equipment is essential tojob including powered industrial trucks and explosive assembly equipment(training will be provided). Specific visionabilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employeewill be mainly in an office environment with regular exposure to manufacturing andtesting facilities containing presses, lathes, mills, etc. The employee will have daily exposure toexplosive materials, various metals and chemicals used in the manufacture ofoilfield explosives products. There maybe occasional exposure to various weather conditions (in the case of field or outdoortesting).
