Senior Developer

Requirements

**Position will be hybrid and based in Austin TX. Relocation support provided

You will:

• Lead front and backend development on web work for clients such as the United States Air Force and agency WordPress sites
• Execute large-scale projects using Agile Scrum practices, including creating agile stories and technical requirements, sprint planning, and leading regular scrum and retrospective discussions
• Estimate development hours, review project schedules, and determine resource needs for upcoming projects
• Front- and back-end development of mobile and web applications and websites
• Determine appropriate software architecture and design
• Write and/or review functional requirement documents and specifications
• Consult with clients and peers on technical factors to refine functionality and ensure successful delivery of the creative vision
• Address and debug issues reported by clients and peers
• Write tests to support Continuous Integration
• Stay current with standards and methodologies in development technologies, and mentor other developers to incorporate new trends
• Help define and lead best practices and have an eye on templatization and framework development. Best practices may include:
• WCAG AA 2.2 (and future updates)
• Data governance
• Web security

• Perform periodic code reviews in collaboration with the development team

You have:

• Expert knowledge of front-end technologies: HTML 5, CSS 3, JavaScript, jQuery, and APIs
• Well-versed in customizing WordPress, including building a theme from scratch
• AEM also preferred but not a requirement

• Solid understanding of back-end technologies: PHP, C# or C++, Python, Java, Javascript/Typescript
• Deep understanding and experience with implementing web accessibility standards as this is a contractual requirement for client web work
• Experience with Agile Scrum Methodologies, including story creation and sprint planning
• An understanding of Continuous Integration, and experience writing and maintaining unit tests
• Experience working with common frameworks (Handlebars, Twig)
• Ability to convert creative assets into cross-browser compatible, optimized, responsive HTML web pages, mobile sites, and emails
• Ability to write well-designed, testable, reusable code and libraries by using best software development practices
• Adept with using CSS preprocessors, such as LESS or SASS
• Proficiency with source code versioning tools, such as GIT and Bitbucket
• Familiarity with Node, Grunt, and package managers
• Basic understanding of web server setup and maintenance and are comfortable working with hosting providers
• Not required but preferred if you have deep knowledge or an interest in at least one of the following arenas and an interest in collaborating with our internal 828 Labs/Innovation Lab:
• Strong native iOS development skills and experience with Xcode
• Three.js (R3F), React, Next, Vue, Unreal, Unity, OpenFrameworks, Cinder, Processing
• Large Scale Media Systems or Digital Production Workflows
• Robotics, EE

What we're looking for:

• A senior developer who loves to create, collaborate and explore. This person will collaborate with creative teams on digital design and digital producers on project scoping, requirements, and ongoing maintenance, take on existing WordPress sites, and be client-facing. This role collaborates with experience design, production, and quality assurance to translate creative concepts and designs into interactive experiences.
• This person should have a desire to grow their own skillset and an enthusiasm for digital trends. There is an opportunity to collaborate with the GSD M innovation lab, 828 Labs, to grow client and agency business with emerging digital media.
