Job Description

This Senior Associate Developer will build, maintain, and enhance commercial and in-house applications and databases serving staff across the company. Reporting to the Vice President, Investment Data Management & Reporting, this is a critical, hands-on position that will make significant contributions in business intelligence, reporting, data management and application development. This role will focus primarily on the implementation and ongoing improvement of the eFront platform, currently in the second phase of a multi-year implementation project. As an integrated software platform with accounting, fund administration, portfolio management, CRM, deal flow and investor portal capabilities, eFront is used by many teams in Ares and this position will be responsible for optimizing reporting and functionality within eFront to meet a wide range of user needs. In addition to eFront responsibilities, the Business System Developer will support enterprise reporting projects as well as initiatives to implement new applications and integrate with the broader Ares organization.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the finance industry with prior work in asset management software, reporting and database solutions such as eFront, FIS Investran, Allvue or other commercial finance products. The position requires very strong communication skills as well as a commitment to providing outstanding service. High proficiency in application and database development, rigorous testing of code and thorough documentation of the software development cycle is a necessity. Equally important is the ability to learn proprietary configuration and report development tools within commercial solutions like eFront. Candidates may travel occasionally (potentially one or two times a quarter) to Ares regional offices, however the position will be based in the Northeast office locations.

Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of new eFront modules and continuously enhance data access, functionality, and reports throughout the integrated eFront platform.
  • Build reports and enhance application functionality using the native capabilities within Ares legacy or future enterprise business systems.
  • Develop custom reporting solutions in MS SQL Server, SSRS, PowerBI and other tools to address requirements which cannot be fulfilled in commercial applications.
  • Design and develop reports from approved specifications. Collaborate with business users and/or IT resources to build, test and refine reports in a non-production environment.
  • Develop proficiency in the administration of business systems to support user account management, configuration of security settings, data interfaces, GUI updates and automated workflow
  • Enforce and enhance Ares IT change management process by documenting business requests and progressing changes through implementation in compliance with Ares policies
  • Monitor and troubleshoot automated processes for data and systems integration such as file delivery and ETL
  • Create systems documentation such as end user help guides, process flow diagrams and logical/technical depictions of systems architecture
  • Partner with IT Operations and Infrastructure team to provide end user support for application and data issues and enhance the automation of IT's internal support and change management workflow
  • Apply knowledge of information and systems security best practices to operate and record evidence of security controls related to Ares business system

Systems Experience and Technical Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of T-SQL development and MS SQL Server Administration.
  • Working knowledge of SAS is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Javascript.
  • Experience with eFront software and report development is highly desired but not a requirement for the position.
  • Experience developing or implementing financial software reporting and databases is required.
  • Ability to implement and leverage vendor software API's.

Key Skills and Business Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelors (4-year) degree from an accredited institution
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in a fast-paced, intensive work environment alongside highly motivated peers
  • Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Comfortable preparing technical documentation for consumption by varied audiences
  • Familiarity with Financial Services is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of the Private Equity asset class and familiarity with asset manager portfolio management and accounting processes helpful.
  • Candidates must be detail-oriented, organized and process-focused as well as effective in managing their own time and balancing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to quickly redirect efforts as needed and reassess priorities.
  • A refined ability to collaborate and build rapport with internal clients is critical.
  • Candidates must be intellectually curious and eager to explore new areas of technology and learn new skills when needed to support the wide range of IT services
  • High proficiency in enterprise reporting tools such as SSRS, PowerBI, Tableau or other business intelligence tools.
  • Knowledge of programmatic scripting such as Powershell, VBA helpful.
  • Extremely strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Knowledge of Visio for diagram and process flow creation preferred.
  • Knowledge of the private equity asset class helpful.
  • Experience supporting/configuring CRM platforms helpful.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$120,000.00 - $170,000.00
