Mission Overview:
Wirecutter is looking for an experienced Senior DevOps engineer. The DevOps team has an organization-wide impact by ensuring Wirecutter's website infrastructure is secure, scalable, and reliable. We are moving towards containerizing applications with ECS as our container orchestration service. We are looking for someone who is passionate about technical leadership, mentoring, and supporting teams on deliverables.
You are cross-disciplined, collaborative, and eager to accelerate DevOps engineering without sacrificing reliability. You will help mature our infrastructure by staying on top of the latest industry trends. You will work with our teams to set up a best-in-class observability platform. You will continue to enhance our developer tooling. You will join a remote friendly team and report to our DevOps Engineering Manager. We ask that you will be on-call for approximately one week every 4 months.
Responsibilities:
- Be the subject matter expert of the Wirecutter AWS infrastructure and implement solutions to strengthen observability, reliability, performance, and security.
- Partner with Product Engineering to implement and drive adoption of our standards for infrastructure and tools to enable engineers to develop, test and ship code
- Participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives at the team level and higher
- Mentor peers in new technologies and approaches
- Partner with the dev teams and assist with DevOps-related questions/tasks
- Work with the Engineering Manager and peers to implement the planned roadmap
Basic Qualifications:
- You have transitioned to DevOps roles after being a Software Engineer/Developer for at least 1+ years building scalable and reliable systems (internship experience does not apply)
- 1+ years of software engineering experience in at least one programming language such as React, Node.js, Java, Go or Python
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services such as Route 53, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, EC2, ALB, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudFront.
- 3+ years of experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code platform
- 3+ years of experience with containerized solutions such as Docker
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipeline and build tools such as CircleCI, Drone, Jenkins, GitLab
- 1+ years of experience troubleshooting and resolving production incidents for high-scale systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- A degree in Computer Science or similar Engineering educational background
- Experience with observability tools such as Datadog and Sumo Logic
