Job Description

Bolt is on a mission to democratize commerce. We relentlessly prioritize our retailers—putting their brands front and center while enabling frictionless shopping at any touchpoint in the customer journey. At the center of it all is our rapidly growing universal shopper network—Bolt merchants such as Deckers, Saks OFF 5TH, Revolve, and Casper can access tens of millions of shoppers, offering them a best-in-class checkout.

And revolutionizing ecommerce is only half of the equation—we’re also transforming the way we work. At Bolt, we have created a work environment where people learn to drive impact, take risks and make big bets, and grow from feedback, all while feeling welcomed and accepted for who they are. Come join us on the adventure today!

We're searching for a Senior Director, Engineering to join our engineering leadership team and play a crucial role in shaping our technological foundation. This is not your typical Director role - you'll be a hands-on leader with the experience to guide multiple teams. You will lead a team and work directly with product and engineering leaders in helping to shape and define market-leading solutions in the face of ambiguous requirements. You will have influence and oversight over building cutting-edge consumer software and the rock-solid backend to power it all.

You will:

  • Work with a passionate, smart and ambitious team of engineers who built large scale systems at Uber, AirBnB, Facebook and Google (https://www.bolt.com/team).
  • Take ownership of your own projects while pairing with mentors.
  • Defining the technical vision of Bolt Products
  • Design and build mission critical systems, products and solutions that companies and consumers alike will rely heavily on.
  • Lead a small team of Engineering Managers each with their own team of direct reports
  • Contribute cross stack and learn a wide variety of skills and technologies.
  • Oversee teams in the US and abroad
  • Work with production systems and on-call processes.
  • Learn from and help shape our company's engineering culture.

Technologies we use:

  • Golang
  • GraphQL
  • Docker / Kubernetes
  • Amazon Web Services
  • Typescript / React
  • Terraform
  • Major Ecommerce platforms

About you:

  • 12+ years of professional engineering experience building consumer grade applications, ideally at a scaled startup
  • 7+ years of experience as an influential technical leader at a business or business unit level
  • Clearly able to articulate both the what and how of operational excellence
  • Experience providing technical oversight and direction for multiple engineering teams in a space building products for consumers at scale
  • Experience architecting solutions for routing and rendering content at the infrastructure level, comfortable using tools like DNS, load balancers, and CDN
  • Experience in data platforms and machine learning is a plus, but not required
  • Are curious and passionate about technology
  • Believe in our values
  • Are excited about jumping into any area of technology
  • Have strong communication skills

Estimated cash compensation: $300-$370k DOE, plus equity

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive health coverage: Medical, dental and vision
  • Remote-first workplace
  • Time away: Flexible PTO, paid holidays + floating holidays, your birthday off!
  • Paid parental leave
  • Competitive Pay
  • Retirement plans
  • Virtual and in-person team & company events

In addition to our core values, Bolt is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity and expression, genetic information, pregnancy and related conditions, veteran status or any other reason prohibited by law. On our mission to democratize commerce, the Bolt platform levels the playing field for everyone. As a company, we are committed to designing products, building a culture, and supporting a team that reflects the diverse population we serve (that is, everyone).
