Risk Management is a core competency for BILL - and is seen as a critical strategic enabler.   The Senior Director of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) plays a critical role in business enablement and financial risk management across BILL’s business units and product lines. Reporting to the SVP of Enterprise Risk Management, this senior leader will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive risk management framework specifically tailored to BILL's unique risks and challenges in the financial technology industry. Your expertise in risk management, coupled with strong leadership skills, will play a critical role in safeguarding BILL's assets and reputation and ensuring the secure and reliable operation of our global payments platform. Responsibilities

  • Support the ongoing development and execution of our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) strategy and roadmap.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain our ERM Program governing   identification, assessment, monitoring, and management of risks in alignment with our business goals and operating environment. 
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including executive leadership, technology teams, compliance officers, and legal counsel, to establish risk appetite, tolerance levels, and effective risk management strategies that support BILL's growth and innovation.
  • Assess the goals, scope, and components of existing risk management programs to identify gaps and opportunities to enhance them in support of our ERM methodologies/frameworks. 
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key risk domain owners  and executive management to Integrate existing risk management programs into our unified ERM program leveraging existing program components where possible. 
  • Provide guidance, frameworks, and best practices to individual risk program managers to drive adoption and ongoing adherence to our ERM framework.
  • Ensure organizational consistency of risk assessment and acceptance through flexible policies inclusive of new acquisitions and our high-growth business environment.
  • Lead cross-functional risk management initiatives and projects that impact multiple risk disciplines and/or business units. 
  • Develop a mechanism for ongoing monitoring, tracking and reporting of ERM issues and remediation activities to executive management and contribute to the Board of Directors committees’ reports relative to enterprise risk management activities. 
  • Oversee our company’s critical incident (crisis) management program and ensure that all incidents are effectively managed and resolved in a timely manner. Coordinate with key stakeholders across the business to design, maintain and test incident response plans and playbooks.

We’d love to chat if you have:

  • 12 years of enterprise-level risk governance experiences, with a strong preference for experience with financial technology and payments-oriented companies. 
  • Experience directing teams in company-threatening catastrophes/incidents.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks and methodologies.
  • Deep understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Ability to build relationships with and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risks from both a technical and business perspective.
  • Exceptional leadership and managerial skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization including our Board of Directors.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and standards such as PCI DSS, GDPR, UDAAP, and other relevant financial regulations.
  • Experience in a public company environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, risk management, economics, accounting, or other applicable discipline, or equivalent experience.

This role is based in California.

The estimated base salary range for this role is noted below for our office location in San Jose, CA. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in BILL’s bonus and equity plan. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.

$197,600—$247,500 USD
